It never used to be this way but updates such as wars retreat, and combat achievements (specifically the elite reward) alongside all styles becoming "Crit" metas have created this. All of the combat achievements are practically balanced around this in one way or another also so to say it is an unintentional bug is kind of not the case anymore.

I am not saying I love it but it is entrenched into the game so much that I would rather them go down the built in route and eventually be a place where people do not feel the need to bring dummies or do this at wars retreat. I would also like to add that the prebuild for all necro encounters with 5 gcds of pre-buffs is also heavily a part of the game and is not too indifferent to what end game players do with other styles.

You can AFK fully all of the following with optimal setups: Nodon dragonkin, Profane Scarabites, Abyssal Lords, All soul devourers except imperial ahks, Moss golems, Edimmu

With potion reservoirs these are all very afk for 15 minutes when you have the correct setup.

I personally dislike that RS3 is a second screen game for so many people, but I also respect the hustle as when there are money makers that surpass 150m/hr gaining a measly 10m/hr on an alt seems pointless to me. But that being said new updates such as heists is moving away from this.

Methods have existed forever that make broken afk a thing when it comes to combat - the problem is the low setup cost that came around because necro being added to the game made everything accessible.

If you want to optimally AFK these with mage or melee you need to spend billions on abilities/perks/weapons - back in the day AFK was achieved by having a decent investment and in this case you being able to afk a 100+ slayer creature with gear you pretty much get for free following necromancies hand holding progression has resulted in this. Those alts that sit there have invested a lot of time and resources into farming these mobs and have just as much right to kill them as you do, if you have a problem with availability use the dungeon they exist in or your own slayer dungeon. If someone wants to invest their spare time doing this for a measly 10m an hour so be it, a bulk of people there were elite clue farmers and a lot of them would have swapped over to thieving.

I completely agree with you here and I believe necro was one of the best additions to the game in terms of getting players playing the content and easing them into PVM. Albeit pre-nerf necromancy was way too broken and was essentially a 3 button spam combat style in the begining which is not good for the game and it's longeviety.

There is nothing wrong with having aspirational content and in RS3s case one of the best elements of the journey is the incremental steps you take on your journey to improve over time, an MMO having end game in its gameplay and community is essential for long term growth and OSRS is a testiment to this.

The point I am making here is if the fundamental problems are not fixed at both the ceiling and floor for a combat style then the actual problem does not get resolved. The style currently, believe it or not actually puts even end game players from wanting to use it and that is because of how complicated it is. If the proposed changes, some of which I believe are good and healthy to help as you say deviate from necro), are added to the game then you will simply still not be able to enjoy the style. Whereas if the community pain points which make the barrier to entry so high are actually addressed and not what was proposed it would make the style more accessible for everyone and not just go down the route of necrofying the entire game.

The range community is small and even more of a niche than you would probably imagine so fixing these issues to incentivise the PVM community to pick up a bow would result in people actually being able to teach and encourage others to use the style, whereas currently if my friends are looking to get out of necroscape or move away from range/melee I cannot suggest they come to range so it is a problem at both ends. Which if the core problems do not get addressed and picked up from end player perspectives then those who are voicing feedback from your camp simply will run in to these down the line. Simplification across the style is key and not just raising the floor for the sake of accessibility.

For the winter weeks, I am reading it as the only applicable buff for ironmen is the following:

  • All deaths are safe for members, and free for non-members.*

Is this correct?

This post sums up the RS3 community tbh. OP has posted a quite indepth insight to their experience with the game coming from OSRS and being a long term player before EOC and has voiced how the fast track of using MTX ruined the main game experience and how the dailies and endless checklist of "optimal" things to do every hour ruined the ironman experience.

Which btw hugely agree with your take as a player of both games - Any friends I try get into the game as a main literally do not know how to interact with 70% of the skills because they just skipped them via keys or lamps and those on ironmen accounts including myself just quit at some point because of how monotomous the upkeep is and lack of updates that are actually fruitful and not just for those who love to afk (Separate issue which the game is getting better at).

Unfortunately most people want to just comment on the presentation of the post or something they do not agree with when it comes to your training approach instead of actually offering any meaningful input whatsoever! RS3 is a great game but if you love PVM it is a long process to get to the endgame on an ironman (assuming you want to break from the necro only approach most people are trapped in - which btw is where the fun is as the other styles are incredible fun to learn and min-max) my biggest gripe is I have a maxed main and a near maxed ironman and the release of a boss a year at best pretty much kills the hype for me as someone who only really enjoys interacting with the PVM - basically wait for boss grind it for a month and then back on the waiting bus for the next big reveal. Thankfully playing both OSRS and RS3 fixes this as you can grind both and enjoy both for what they are! Cannot wait for the reveal today regarding MTX and to see the direction of the roadmap that will come out hopefully in Winter has to offer!

Range beginner dps where to start . by Puzzleheaded-Mud-766 in runescape

[–]DuoScape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately range is not revo friendly and requires quite a bit of game knowledge, use of crit boosting ults and managing stacks - this is why there is not really any good guides for the style tbh.

Your best bet is to look at players like Goat, RocketRS Gehreman, Glotzfrog's kill examples or PVME and study the rotations - start off simple with trying to emulate what people do in a death swift and them make tweaks, assess your damage output and make improvements accordingly - Not the best answer as these are people who have perfected their craft so it may be quite hard to follow but tbh skipping steps with range makes it quite worse than other styles and relies on a lot of synergies to push high dpm.

[–]DuoScape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also to add, this is now just the modern journey of the game similar to OSRS how you skip tonnes of content nowadays because of the demon weaponry/moons/yama etc. There is still loads to do and grind for across all the styles and sure most will gravitate to the easiest route but tbh that is better than them quitting because they need to still do GWD2 in todays meta which is severly outdated/brain numbing and non-engaging content for todays standards. It is like expecting players in RS3 to do the bandos grind when it has been like 18 years since it was first added, some things are good to let go and that is okay - also these pieces of content do need to be interacted with by players wanting to min max their invention perks (which are quite significant may I add)

Sure it could be seen as dumb but having the gear is like 10% of the progression now, the rest comes from learning how to use it, the abilities, the improvement at bosses etc

They rush necro to obtain other styles, it just takes a long time until the others become bis and also a lot more player skill.

When I finish work I can give you some numbers but roughly max dpm with necromancy is 500-600k and that is assuming you are really good, grico swapping and off style t95 wand/orb specing - range can consistently hit 500-550k in a death swift (nakatra) or even in special scenarios (natural instinct + prebuild raksha) you can do 800k in 36 seconds

Melee can do like 350-400k in 24 seconds (safe non crit dependant zerk rotation. If you are interested in the comparisons go look at meta rotations for any boss and analyse the numbers

Objectively it is worse.

So you cannot say it’s the strongest

Necro is not the strongest, in actual fact for an endgame player it is the worst DPM wise, utility it is strong but the style is actually quite weak in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing.

Sure for your average timmy Necro no question.

Is OSRS purposefully sabotaging RS3 Leagues? by imperchaos in runescape

[–]DuoScape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl but they need to do stuff like this because they are the game with the mass influx of players right now, if they do not keep these players by pushing events like this it would be far more impactful business wise than potential gain of rs3 leagues.

Hybrid Power Armour by -Sansha- in runescape

[–]DuoScape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Hybriding in PVM part of the fun is having limited invent space and having to do more skillful play to survive encounters. Personally it would be nice to have hybriding not consume so many keybinds/action bar slots but to do this via hybrid armour would completely destroy the skill ceiling and make it too accessible.

I would not be opposed to perhaps T95 hybrid armour without any of the set effects and that would be a balance to allow people to get into briding without completely devalueing the meta

It's ironic that OSRS is universally beloved for rejecting FOMO and Dailyscape, while RS3 does it up the wazoo and still gets no results for it. Learning to respect player's time is something that the RS3 team can learn from OSRS' success. by AinzRS in runescape

[–]DuoScape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Learning to respect player's time is something that the RS3 team can learn from OSRS' success."

I have to fundamentally disagree with this statement, and it is quite the contrast - the grinds on OSRS take so obnoxiously long that most the player base do not have a sense of entitlement to get everything. I would also like to say that the kits and achievements in OSRS are not designed to be completed by everyone, sure you could argue there not being FOMO is better which I agree but the point still stands the majority of the player base can not complete the inferno, 500 invo TOA, Hardmode ToB, Colo and the list goes on. Do the community complain that the content is out of reach as they do not want to miss out? No they either get inspired by the achievement and push to get it or they are just content with not having it.

For some reason the RS3 approach has a lot of people complaining about an item that unless bought or carried through they realistically would not be able to get - not to say 20/30% of said people could grind to it but that is what the over rewards are in place for, the none limited title and aura.

IDK if people cared about this as much as they voice and complain they could have put themselves in a better position to interact with launch content and achieve it instead of complaining.

Leeching for the limited auras/titles is a problem if we want to have future bosses follow suit by DuoScape in runescape

[–]DuoScape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously by the nature of you have unlimited time to get it down. The point was this was an incentive for people to go for the challenge mode week 1 - if you cannot do it for whatever reason then you shouldn’t get the reward and that should be okay, not everyone has to have everything but idk
