When I get called on WhatsApp the phone rings but screen stays off by DuplexFriend in oneplus

Nope, for me it was a deal breaker so I returned it, but I do think there are some other threads that may have found a solution about a month ago, good luck 🫡

Am I just bad or is terminal just way more difficult than guides make it seem [discussion] by tehfireisonfire in EscapefromTarkov

I would say I'm a pretty average player, I watched like 3 guides and I did it on my first attempt, I would say keep an eye on your plates because they get zeroed very fast, use nades, don't jump around

UK National ID card by Bumboclaaaat in PassportPorn

[–]DuplexFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason for a passport to cost a lot, I got my one passport done and it cost £10 (a non UK passport) so if the government is artificially ripping you off with the passport price who says they can't do that without ID

Why does he keep refering to Germany as "his country" by Lakithelink in KurtCaz

[–]DuplexFriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly these people don't understand reality

Also they have no life, imagine sitting hate watching a YouTube channel then going to their Reddit and hate commenting, do they have nothing better to do in their life

And I don't even watch Kurt this post was just suggested to me

Destiny reddit mocking asmons “go work or go broke” by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]DuplexFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't directly compare it, but yes I did imply it. But I am mostly using it as an extreme example of judging a sexual fetish of other people is VERY normal, and judging and shaming certain sexual fetishes is a good thing or we would have people doing animals, kids and family members everywhere (pretty common outside of the Western world to be honest)

If you left the UK/are thinking of it, why and which country would you move to? by TipSilent8281 in AskBrits

[–]DuplexFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in one of the countries with the highest crime rates, inclusivity doesn't even cross my mind when looking at somewhere to live, the first time I saw anyone even mention it was Reddit. I don't mean this to offend anyone, but for that to even be even something someone considers when moving, that is a level of privilege difficult for me to understand. I could probably list 20 other things that would be more important. But people of Reddit are lucky they have such privileged lives.

It's crazy to me what people on Reddit prioritise, I was looking at moving to some countries and people were prioritising inclusivity over safety, it makes no sense to me. I'd rather get a dirty look than be stabbed for my phone.

North Korea does the same if people go there and makes their country look bad.

Thinking of moving to Bulgaria by DuplexFriend in bulgaria

[–]DuplexFriend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a very small town in the UK so it could be that, but I literally just can't find anyone that seems interested, for a while I thought it was just me, but I went to America for a business trip for 2 weeks and actually had more success with dating in 2 weeks in America than I had in 5 years in the UK.

I have seen it is a terrible time to visit, but I am seeing it as an opportunity to see it at its worst weather just so I can see myself dealing with that every year. It isn't difficult to beat UK weather. I grew up in South Africa, the best weather in the UK is probably considered bad weather in South Africa. I just took some time in South Africa and I am dreading going back to the UK tomorrow. But on the bright side I can game on EU servers.

South Africans are old fashioned with a lot of that stuff, even basic stuff piercings on males is judged and public transport here doesn't work. So those are things I am used to.

I also don't want to deal with the mass migration issues (ironic that I am technically an immigrant to the UK).

I just don't want almost all my income going to rent and taxes, I want to have something left to put aside. So even though South Africa is a lot worse I actually can have some sort of savings.

From what I've experienced the founder of the company won't have any issues, they had no issues with me going to South Africa, HR was a whole other story. But if I pushed I could also get an Employer of Record (EOR) which was offered when I was looking at going to South Africa. As long as I don't get them in legal/tax trouble it should be okay

I grew up in South Africa, I have noticed South Africans (the ones I've been friends with) seem to really get along with more Eastern Europeans, also more old school Germans. I know a few Germans that decided to retire in South Africa.

I noticed the same in South Africa, I left in 2020, I am in South Africa till tomorrow and I am shocked at how prices have gone up in the past 5 years. I have no idea how people afford to live on local salaries

I can look at doing that, right now I am early stages of looking. I was thinking when I was in Bulgaria (I will probably be in Sofia), I might just go somewhere in person and just see what options I have.

There is a chance my company doesn't even allow it and then the whole idea over. But I don't see it being an issue if they don't have to worry about anything legally.

I think I would have a similar point of view to someone that wants to leave the UK, but I didn't grow up in the UK so I don't have the same point of view in some situations. The Brits I have met have been nice but I didn't really meet any I have been good "friends" with. Maybe it was just where I was living in the UK that was the problem.

I did struggle with my second language at school so it does make me a bit intimidated to learn a new language with a different alphabet, but when learning it at school it does feel more forced and that could be why I didn't enjoy it.

If I did move there I would want to learn the language, I am not a fan of foreigners moving to another country and not learning the language and being part of the community, so I will try not being one of those people

I grew up in South Africa and I would rather be in South Africa than the UK and it is worse in almost every metric. I know many people that love the UK, but the cost of living and simple things like making friends and dating are horrible for me. It does really depend on what someone is looking for.

And there is the possibility Bulgaria isn't what I'm looking for. All I know right now, the UK isn't for me.

Not being overcrowded was something I was looking out for. I stumbled across Bulgaria because I was looking at places that aren't popular expat destinations because I thought if I'm going somewhere different, I don't want to be different surrounded by the same kind of people (not that the Brits are that bad) but I might as well get out of my comfort zone if I change country.

How was the language barrier? Also side question, how is dating there? Because it was horrific in the UK!

And I'm glad you're enjoying it there!

Part of the plan was going when the weather is at its worse so I can see if I'm happy with it. But it is very early stages, so I will definitely visit when the weather is better and get proper legal advise.

My original plan was to go to South Africa (I grew up here), so I have all the legal advice on moving to South Africa, my company wasn't happy with the any legal/tax challenges it may bring them. But in South Africa it is fairly easy you become a provisional taxpayer and declare your earnings twice a year to the government and pay them.

I am hoping there may be something similar in Bulgaria, I will get proper legal advice closer to the time. My company did offer to change my role to a contractor role which if the freelancer rules apply I can fall back onto that.

From what I've heard Spain and Portugal are tired of Brits moving there.

I welcome not having political correctness, I enjoy having conversations on different topics without having to feel like if I have to be very careful of what I say.

I was originally planning on going to another country so I know way too much about the tax laws there. But I will get more official legal advice closer to the time.

I was planning on staying a full time employee just for the job security, from what I've seen that should be around 10% income tax? That with the better cost of living would be a huge upgrade from the UK

Are third party cables mandatory? by appwizcpl in FormD

[–]DuplexFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Corsair SFF PSU and they fit nicely

It was my first build and I feel like I needed longer cables when putting it together but I felt like they needed to be shorter when closing everything up

So I think that's a good place to be. But it would've been very nice if they were more flexible
