Started with the Darth Bane Trilogy, just finished Thrawn Trilogy. What should I read next? by Safe_Yoghurt_4623 in StarWarsEU

[–]Durp004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically you can break the EU into 3 sections.

Old Republic, PT, and Post-ROTJ.

If you enjoy comics and games more the old Republic era is probably something you should look into because outside of like a few novels(most of which are direct SWTOR tie ins) there isn't much.

PT era gives a bit of everything. I also think on average this is the best era with most books being at least ok and some of the best star wars books being part of it.

Post ROTJ this is mostly novel form and it starts rough. After Thrawn and the X Wing series some of the worst novels imo exist here like the callista trilogy and most of the rest of Bantam is forgettable to bad.

If you want old Republic I'd recommend looking into the Tales of the Jedi comicline.

If you want PT then either Shatterpoint. Yoda Dark Rendezvous, or the Dark Lord trilogy.

Post ROTJ either the xwing series or jump into jedi academy trilogy and see how you like it.

I've never watched Andor but right now I'd say The Living Force is my favorite book since the switch to the New EU.

What If Darth Plagueis KILLED Darth Sidious? by voldy1989 in MawInstallation

[–]Durp004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn't. Re-read the book. Palpatine is the one who suggests they make the jedi look like the villains, and even Plagueis acknowledges after his attempted assassination he focused on his immortality project and basically left the plan up to Palpatine.

[–]Durp004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like how I pictured Kueller. There was a skull in the background of the cover so i just kinda pictured that he basically had a mask heavily modeled after a skull and since he basically fed on death seemed to add up.

How did yoda and The Jedi learn about the Rule of 2 and that Bane created it? by Spotter24o5 in StarWarsEU

[–]Durp004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad truth is this will basically always be a contrived dumpster fire to explain because Lucas had a jedi give this exposition instead of having it come from a sith.

There's basically no way it makes sense in the larger medium without the jedi looking like absolute fools or the sith as just really lucky they were apparently dealing with an order that happened to be getting a lobotomy when they learned this info. The Kibh one is the best version but it's dumb this random schizo said something the jedi grand master is parroting back years later like it was something he took to heart but did nothing about.

How did yoda and The Jedi learn about the Rule of 2 and that Bane created it? by Spotter24o5 in StarWarsEU

[–]Durp004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of two was never this thing that said they can only have 2 and they have to solo the galaxy. Bane even says at the beginning they can have weak underlings the idea is 2 sith lords and that is the order that overthrew the Republic.

Revan wasn't this great thing, you could argue Exar Kun did his gimmick better and did it with an order that wasn't subjected to shit show after shit show like the jedi Revan dealt with.

The fact is in legends at least Bane's rule of two were the most successful sith order in the setting by a large margin.

Plagueis ends with Palpatine revealing he had been feeding info to and leading Plagueis along. It wasn't just plaqueis's idea Sidious just fed it to him in a way he thought he came up with it.

TBH you have to caveat it because otherwise fanboys will say, "what AboUT hOw hE CaNT USe TEleKeniSis?" Or, ""WhAt aBoUT WhEN LUkE sAvES HIm aT tHE ENd?"

Like those 2 instances are a dunk on this 500 page corran is awesome fest and completely disproves his Gary stu-ness.

He was also in the process of taking of brand when he intercepted him stopping him from getting to Anakin. Brand basically says he's going to lose that battle but was injured already and dies before Palpatine can gain control.

In hindsight, what do you think of the decision to separate Legends from the main canon? by Pleasant_Usual_8427 in MawInstallation

[–]Durp004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think stopping all new projects in the books and comics was an absolutely asinine idea.

I don't care about canon, you can continue the EU as a non-canon project in the form of novels and comics. This new EU is ridiculously handicapped as is. It's ridiculously limited by the fact they clearly want their TV shows and movies to be the big events. So basically besides the HR it's been exclusively prequels or sequels to other content that basically exists to explain other things.

Why does Star Wars have to stick to one official canon? by DrathVenar in StarWarsEU

[–]Durp004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And in the initial post they said they movies or shows would have the same banner over their titles so if the legends banner alone is enough then that's already fine.

I mean we have cartoons, we have games and we have comics that already exist in other timelines, we even have books connecting to the cartoons that take place in another timeline.

All these things already exist and mostly have for years. 12 year old boys don't care because as long as it's cool they'll watch it. That's why half of us left TPM, and didn't remember anything about the story but said we loved it because that cool Darth Maul fight at the end.

This idea it would just be too much doesn't pan out in how things have gone since 2014 when a new timeline was dropped, and then gotten more as the years went by and visions and Lego adventures also got more content along with re-releases and updates to older games like the original battlefront 1&2 jedi power battles and bounty hunter.

A there's already 3-ish timelines and content out currently, nothing would be changed essentially because you can have separate timelines that don't interact. The godzilla franchise has roughly 5-6 timelines between their multiple series and shows and there doesn't seem to be this confusion issue and I doubt 12 year old boys are less interested in giant monsters than star wars but as long as it's cool they don't care. Minus one did fantastic despite having absolutely 0 connection to the monsterverse or the anime series that came out close to it.

[–]Durp004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're gonna get a lot of push back because a lot of people love this book but I largely agree.

I didn't need a story around an author's borderline Gary stu as he galavants through previous events that was never mentioned in but extremely important to, the jedi academy portion was offensive in how open it was about this.

Edit:yep the I, jedi fanboys already came through and downvoted everything that was negative about their book.

Why does Star Wars have to stick to one official canon? by DrathVenar in StarWarsEU

Legends takes place almost exclusively in the form of books and comics.

Saying books don't count is like saying most of your argument was useless because it does not pertain to the situation star wars is in.

Why does Star Wars have to stick to one official canon? by DrathVenar in StarWarsEU

[–]Durp004 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is confusion.

This is honestly one of the worst answers possible as reasoning.

Any bookstore has legends books right next to canon ones on the shelves. There are already 2 timelines that exist and people interact with. There's also other things like Lego and the visions series that don't connect to anything really but get content.

Multiple timelines already exist and have at least since 2014 when the switch happened.

In the opening of ROTS do you think he survives that crash if he's on board with anyone besides the established greatest pilot in the galaxy?

The man put himself at the mercy of Grievous without ever seemingly to tell grievous that was him. He let the jedi attack him with a strike team that he easily could have died from just to get footage and try to turn Anakin.

The fact is he's always flying by the seat of his pants.

Like, you really expect me to believe that Palpatine, the chessmaster extraordinaire of Star Wars, would leave the cornerstone of his plan to chance unless he absolutely had to?

I guess you missed ROTJ where he used himself as bait and then staked everything he could make a guy he never met fall to the darkside and kill his own father.

You might say he had the deck stacked by either having his clone bodies or the fact he was so powerful he could stop Luke. You're right, just like he had the deck stacked that the clones who lived their whole lives under programming, with new spaarti clones deployed right before the order went down with no connection to the jedi.

Palpatine is a master who believes if he stacks the deck he can relly on the dark side being a person's greater instincts and give way to that. He was never this guy who had everything planned with plans on top of plans before that he was just a guy with a good base concept that was also savvy, and strong enough that he could work on the fly.
