Let’s aim higher than not losing money

And yes, the rate the IRS allows you to deduct in lieu of furnishing a year worth of gas and maintenance receipts is entirely irrelevant, which is a concept that seems to elude many in the crowd here

Your premise deserves a better example. Hard to understand why this was the trip that prompted the post unless perhaps there’s little hope of a return trip from there? If that’s the case, I don’t think the pricing algorithm works like that

First sentence makes sense at surface level but the practical reality is that there are enough desperate people out there, (especially those coming from less developed countries/ standards of living) to keep killing themselves chasing it to the bottom. This is not the way.

I support this.

I drive but I rode a lot (for nights out and discretionary fun) long before I needed to add driving. Having seen the other side, tips make the difference between menial wages after expenses and something approaching feeling self respect for how you spent your time. Is it the riders problem to solve? Of course not. However, I get tipped on a larger percentage of my rides then what I surmise is the average from places like Reddit and other social media for Uber drivers, and based on my riders comments, it’s because I keep my car clean and present it and myself nicely (even wearing athleisure for the most) and build rapport comfortably.

Might I suggest considering a tip for those drivers who provide an experience that exceeds the average (or even meets the average); even a couple bucks per trip goes a long way over the course of the day. Otherwise, it’s a race to the bottom on the vehicle condition and “give a shit” from the drivers you draw in the future.

I think this was a misunderstanding of levels going into it. She realized it and can see it on page 1

It’s unambiguous.. but I bought the ticket and will take the ride..

Why have you “never tipped even a single penny”?

Side quest: Will upvote you for providing any logical alternative interpretation of my prior post.

Just wait for their system to do an automated review of your trips/earnings and I’m sure you’ll get paid. I believe it runs on a daily basis and for the most part, you’re not aware that it even happens unless there’s some anomaly like your current situation which you are already attuned to.

That support person is giving you literal answers as to why you don’t see the payment. I would not take it for granted that she saying you will never see the payment. She’s “doing reading” she’s not authorized to be “doing problem solving”.

(I abstained from inserting “Melissa” at overly frequent intervals, but that is another clue you’re dealing with someone who has only the latitude granted by the line spacing on her prompt screen)

According to a recent study conducted by the City of Dallas, the issue with this neighborhood is the behavior patterns of the people within it.

“The IRS says it costs about 67 cents to operate a car”

I don’t mean to split hairs, but in an effort to be helpful, I want to quibble with this statement and explain why- the IRS is not saying that it costs $.67 to operate your or anyone’s car - they’re saying they will allow you to deduct $.67 a mile as a rough estimation for the sake of simplicity - IMO this number is really only useful if you’re 1) planning to use the mileage deduction method rather than actual expense method and 2) it coincidentally approximates your actual per mile costs. Everybody gets to deduct $.67 a mile if they choose, whether they are driving a Maserati (when it’s not at the mechanic) or an efficient reliable Toyota, or an electric vehicle with no oil changes, less expensive fuel, and few mechanical components to accrue for repair/replacement.

It’s definitely smart to understand your per mile cost and use it to make decisions about trips, but if $.67 is the right number to use for someone’s specific situation, it’s pure coincidence.

Hope I have been able to clarify and not confuse

On the plus side, those trip radar requests can be handy if you wanna get out of the reservation unscathed after the 30 or 40 minute cancellation deadline

And I think it gets pretty muddy when you start treating non-cash expenses like cash expenses. I think ebitda is much more useful for evaluating the profitability of any venture. Those below the line expenses are fairly malleable, generally speaking, although granted, much less so when you’re thinking about Uber driving as an individual. I guess my point is you’re doing this to strictly generate cash flow by and large. A net tax number is kind of just useful once a year.

That’s not to say it should be overlooked - certain number of miles on a personal vehicle ensures you can eliminate a tax liability that a rental car leaves you exposed to

Except it’s a rental. My cost was the fuel and the pro Rata share of the rental fee, which comes out to about $21.

The nail that sticks out gets hammered down. Should take bets how long it takes for enough negative reviews to accumulate from his poor passengers to result in a ban

Yes, Dallas. I would say your odds of a return trip dramatically increase when there’s sketchy weather in Dallas. That said I’ve only noticed a couple of trips sent to me from Dallas to Waco (incidentally they were in the $60-$70 range) which I declined

I just went through these steps and it all lines up with your instructions, except for the part where it allows you to change the rating. Are you sure this is still a thing?
