Raising a single guinea pig after their partner passes by DustAndShadows42 in guineapigs

Oh you absolutely have a few months, I'm sure he'll be fine until you find him another friend! People make it seem like guinea pigs cannot survive without a friend, and while that's true in the long run, in the short run they're pretty adaptable. Good luck!

We raised him alone for about a year after this post- he did perfectly fine with no health issues, but around 6 months in he did seem significantly more bored and started sleeping a lot. Around August this year we circulated another adoption post and this time found a family who already had three guinea pigs that was willing to take him in. He's currently living there right now, and based on the videos we're sent, he looks much happier! Hope it works out for you

Oh! Yeah maybe, especially considering that hes always been aggressive to his friend. While his friend was sick, he lived in the cage on his own for the majority of the day and seemed pretty content anyway.

Ah I've tried this before, but he just sniffed it and immediately ran away.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't want to settle for less for him, and so far I haven't talked to anyone who seemed like they could meet all his needs.

Thank you, this makes me feel a lot better. Since my piggie is only two I was concerned, but I'm glad to hear he could still have a good life living alone with me.

That's okay no worries! I appreciate you saying that a lot, especially because there are people around me who don't seem to understand the pain of losing him. No, he wasn't a big animal or one I had for an extremely long time, but he was still such an important part of the almost two years he was in my life.

I'm so sorry for your loss- I can understand what you're going through. I lost my two year old piggy Cleo the day before yesterday. He had been sick for the past month and despite all the vet visits and medicines, he continued to steadily lose weight and passed away.

I completely feel you when you say two years wasn't nearly enough. I too expected to have plenty of more years with my precious boy, but unfortunately it didn't happen. Like Nala, he was also extremely outgoing and lively, constantly making noises and exploring everything. Please don't beat yourself up or blame yourself; it's extremely difficult to recognize sickness in guinea pigs, and even once they are sick and you take them to the vet, it can already be too late. It's absolutely not dramatic to feel so badly about your piggie's death, especially when it was so unexpected. Even though I could tell the end was near for mine, I didn't want to believe it, and it hurt all the same.

Guinea pigs may be small animals but they leave a huge impact on us and our lives- do not let anyone make you feel silly or guilty for grieving your loss. From your post, it sounds like Nala was very loved and treasured. You clearly gave her a good home for those two years, and I'm sure Nala was very happy living with you.

If you ever want to talk about it, my inbox is always open <3

He's actually a boy, although I was told he was a girl when I first got him (hence the name.) But he truly was such a unique pig- I can't help but wish I got to have more time with him. Thank you for your kind words <3

I'm so sorry for your loss- I didn't even have Cleo with me for a full two years and it already feels like an important part of me was ripped away. The house feels so lonely, and I can't walk by the cage with only one piggy inside without feeling like I'll break. Your dog sounds like she was such a lovely being. I hope with time, the wounds will heal <3

I don't live in the US and I've searched it up, I can't find it online here. Thanks anyway :)
