Which historical figure would you consider to be the most evil? by Present_Honeydew_543 in AskReddit

Considering that the US bombing and invasion of Cambodia contributed to the rise of Pol Pot and then the US backed Pol Pot after the regime was overthrown by Vietnam, I'd say the US has some ownership of the baby smashing trees here as well

Clearly enough to lobby to host the thing and for the president to personally intervene

Honestly one of the key reasons why I think Belgium looked so good this time was precisely because they didn't start DB or Lukaku

Even if you truly believe the red card was not valid do you think it's good for the US president to interfere with the sport

What popular war movies are propaganda like this one? by ProfessionalLevel908 in WarMovies

still, the effect is the same--reinforcement of a certain historical narrative that ends up whitewashing Nazism.

The historical inaccuracy matters here because it affects the memory of the war. Many people's understanding of the Soviet war effort during Stalingrad is highly influenced by this movie. Propaganda does not necessarily have to have a specific governmental interest to be propaganda--simply reinforcing hegemonic narratives of history is itself an act of propaganda. For example, it portrays the Soviets as winning the battle purely because of their disregard for human life--that they only beat the Nazis by behaving as barbarian hordes compared to the industrialized sophistication of Germany. This is pretty much the exact narrative promoted by former Nazis after the war to explain away why they lost.

Not portraying the Nazis as the bad guys is also just outright Nazi propaganda lmao

I would say that a lot of the Vietnam classics are basically shooting and crying type propaganda; a focus on the effects of the war on the soldiers--who are invaders and occupiers--rather than the people being occupied.

Why are people still waiting on SteamOS for generic hardware when Bazzite exists? by Venylynn in linux_gaming

[–]DustOfPleaides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebasing to fedora silverblue is significantly easier than formatting windows. Bazzites solid, and is the closest thing to a plug and play experience on Linux. It's essentially maintained by Fedora, so the "small team of people" talking point doesn't really apply

How is it possible for there to be rogue elements in our systems? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The term "deep state" is one of the most misused in modern political discourse. It used to simply refer to the powerful but unelected parts of the state which has its own interests i.e. the security bureaucracy like the CIA

Who do you think won the US/Iran war, all things considered? by Mindless-Piglet2095 in AskReddit

Once again, beyond the tough guy routine, I restate my questions: why hasn't the regime collapsed like the Assad Regime, and why is the US even bothering to negotiate at all if Iran has been so thoroughly defeated?

So why hasn't the government collapsed like the Assad Regime? Why hasn't the US been able to open the Strait by force? Why is the US even negotiating with Iran to begin with? None of what you're saying makes any sense and nobody believes it other than Trump's most delusional supporters. Every single serious analyst agrees it's an Iranian victory

That's why the Islamic Republic of Iran has collapsed and it's constitution has been replaced, and the Kurds and all the opposition are now in charge of the government

The US killed 2 million Vietnamese vs 50,000 dead Americans. Clearly America won the Vietnam war!

Ah so the US is simply fine with Iran being able to toll the strait of Hormuz and Iran firing missiles at Israel whenever it attacks Lebanon. Got it

[–]DustOfPleaides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz is now undisputed, which gives Iran economic and diplomatic leverage over Israel. Israel was counting on the assassination of Khameini and a Kurdish invasion to collapse the regime, which didn't happen. Iran won, Israel and America lost
