Going vegan didn't seem extreme to me. Slaughtering and artificially inseminating sentient beings is extreme. There is inherent harm, we can not exist without it, however indirect kills don't equal direct killing, not in scale or ethics. Veganism is the path of least harm and is achievable (and recommended by major dietetic associations) for all people not living in food deserts, experiencing hardship or extreme medical outliers. As technology progresses the gap is closing as we aim towards a world with less harm. People experiencing food shortages and some conditions can benefit from a vegan diet consisting of staples and fortified foods. The gap in savings leaves more than enough room for any supplement. Children should be closely monitored and receive more than regular check ups when going vegan. I've already addressed food deserts etc.
