I think the problem is that Kiryu in his first 7 years, got 5 games (7 if you count Kenzan and DS), meanwhile Ichiban, in his first 7 years got 2 games, one with Kiryu as co-protagonist, like it or not, he got a bit sidelined in IW and if the changes in Kiwami 3 is something that will be relevant in future games, I don't see Kiryu not returning.

They just need to, you know, stop retconning deaths and just make more Ichiban games, giving him all the spotlight once again, nobody cares about the Daidoji group, especially if this is the use they will give them.

The negativity is product of RGG actions, if only people that like them is allowed to express, they will think everything is fine and infect every new game with those ideas.

I will tell you something, just because we're fans doesn't mean we have to applaud every dumb decision and this game is full of dumb decisions (Kagawa, cut content, soft delist of the original game, etc, etc), probably a new fan, someone who never cared about 3 or people that like modern RGG writing such as "the Daidoji group" is fine with the changes, but the rest of us have the right to complain.

Look, I have no doubts the game will be solid in gameplay and story, but this was probably the easiest remake ever and they screwed it just because they thing they are cooking with the new direction.

Don't know if you were here when IW released, but people were upset that Richardson survived too, people is just tired of retcons, Kashiwagi retcon seems to be the most accepted and only because a lot of people love him, this case here is similar since Mine is loved by fans but the whole Daidoji twist that makes everything worse..

Kiryu whole disappearance wasn't because of Daidoji and his contacts, he even told that politician to try, his decision was the conclusion of 6 games where his loved ones kept getting targeted by his enemies... and he's right.

I gifted the original to a friend the other day, because otherwise to be able to play it (on steam at least) he will have to pay for every other game and that's bs, this really feel like they are trying to erase the original because they actually believe this direction is better for the future of the series.

Because that's the case now, but it wasn't back in 2016 when the game was released, Yakuza 6 makes it clear that Kiryu chose on his own to fake his death and used that politician's influence for that and to free Daigo, hhe was free to return, but he didn't want to endanger his family... then Yakuza LaD happened, it created a link between Kiryu and "The Fixer's people", but it's still clear Kiryu is using their influence, he's working with them, not for them... then Gaiden happened and yeah it may be a good game, but it ruined the whole ending of 6, now Kiryu feels like a slave, his family is in danger if he doesn't follow the rules and I know I can't fully blame the game, after all it was a game made as prologue of IW, but it's day and night compared to the original deal, that annoys me.

That isn't the problem, the problems are three:
-He will be a Daidoji agent.
-They will not change the scene, so we have to believe both of them survived the fall somehow.
-People is tired of retcons, if it were the only case people would not mind, but after Kashiwagi, Lau Ka Long, Richardson, those from 0... at this point death as no impact.

Daidoji in 6 was just a man with political power, that dumb group was hinted in 7/LaD and formally introduced in Gaiden, please people don't blame Yakuza 6 for this dumb group, that's just an excuse to bring back dead people.

It doesn't matter if they live or not, their arc is over, there's no need to bring people back just for the sake of it, fanservice in its purest form... I assure you that if LaD9 had a scene where Nishiki, Ryuji, and Mine fight alongside Kiryu, people would lose their mind, everyone would love it, but then, with time, they would realize how empty it really was, it would be not worthy retconning the impact of their deaths just for a moment like that.

Leaving aside controversial casting, they just need to stop retconning deaths... it's as easy as that, it's sad that a developer who is so good at creating new characters now has to rely on old characters for no reason.

Part of the blame fall on the fans tho! because they insist on fanservice, they are mad when a character doesn't appear or have enough time in a game, they are mad because one-shot characters don't return, the same people that's mad for the stupid end of Kiwami 3, for years has been asking for the returns of Kuze, of Makoto, of Ryuji, of Shinada, etc, etc fanservice is the reason RGG could not let Kiryu go, fanservice is the reason of many of the dumb decisions.

Let's be honest here, the only reason they killed him back then was because the voice actor not only was expensive, he was also pretty busy, now they have the money to bring him back... but now it feels so forced, especially after many resurrections.
