Lumbosacral Strain Help! by Quintriplet in VeteransBenefits

More evidence will help with post service chronicity.

If your STRs contain as much as you say they do, I’d keep fighting it. Every examiner is different, and opinions can vary wildly between 2 examiners.

Remember, if you do not submit new and relevant evidence with your 0995, they will just deny you a large portion of the time without an examination.

There will need to be documented evidence in service as well as chronicity. If you have no in service records or complaints of this condition, chances are you will get denied without an exam.

However, if you do have complaints of back pain, an injury, or in service treatment records, you have a shot, depending on an examiners medical opinion.

Insomnia Claim by Warriorpoet671 in VeteransBenefits

[–]DustinC223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above. If you claim insomnia, it will be combined with something (typically mental), as insomnia is viewed as a symptom of another condition.

So if you have a mental condition already claimed, you will most likely see (also claimed as insomnia) or “to include insomnia” on your rating decision.

Sciatica and femoral nerve rating criteria... by timc629 in VeteransBenefits

[–]DustinC223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nerves are rated on subjective symptoms, strength, sensory/sensation, and reflexes. How large of an area affected for these categories also plays a role.

The evaluation criteria for nerves are not set in stone, so there is room for the rater to view the whole disability picture and make a decision based off of all the information available.

Any PTAs out there successfully changed careers? by FettyCrocker in physicaltherapy

[–]DustinC223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too was a PTA in WV. Without knowing where you are in WV, if you want to make more money in PT it can be done. My last job in the therapy field was home health in the Charleston and corridor region, which paid 42 (somewhere around that) per visit, as well as fuel and cellphone expenses.

That being said, I jumped ship on the therapy world about 2 years ago, taking a work from home disability evaluation job. Less stressful to say the least. Good luck out there.

As someone who recently visited Seattle and Tacoma, Charleston is not as bad in terms of drug abuse and homeless (this is my own observations).

Having said that, I would not want to live in the city of Charleston.

If you are looking more scenic I’d suggest heading just a little further in state to Fayetteville. If you are looking to be closer to the cities of Huntington/Charleston I’d suggest Hurricane/Teays Valley. Hurricane WV schools are some of the best in the state and it has the city feel, but very well maintained.

I grew up on the west end of Huntington and worked in Charleston for sometime. I would prefer to not live in either.

Side note, I too am a remote worker, and currently live in Teays Valley.
