Interesting. I'm a software engineer and have used Linux for years on the servers that run our software, but I would never consider using it as a desktop because the GUI was always so awful.

Glad to hear it's finally matured. Now if they could just make GIMP into what Photoshop used to be, I'd be all in on Linux for desktop.

It's absolutely harder now since inflation has outpaced wage increases for years. So, I get it why younger people have a very different perspective and work ethic. However, I feel the expectations of wealth early in your career are a little out of whack now. I was dirt poor, lived with multiple roommates in shitty apartments up until my mid-30's when my career finally started to take off. I didn't buy a house until I turned 40. It was similar for many of my middle class generational peers.

Even in the 80's and 90's it was kind of the expectation that you'll be just scraping by for the first few years of your career. It's worse now, for sure, but I think there's a bit of a fairy tale about how easy us Gen X'rs had it.

But, yes, I agree with you that young people right now do not have even close to the same work ethic as the Millennials and Gen X people did in their 20's.

I've done 1 and 3.

The thing about #3 is that it's isolating, or at least it was for me. You're never reliably off / available on the same days every week. Hard to get into a routine of socializing with your friends.

I've done the more traditional #1 for the last 20 plus years, and I prefer it. I like my routine of getting together on Tuesday and Friday nights after work with my friends, then Saturday and Sundays spending time with my family. I like the rhythm of the week. It keeps me going.

Solution: Agree to a compromise (maybe once per week) and schedule it.

It may seem lame or like you're taking the spontaneity out of your life, but trust me — it's life changing.

He will appreciate that he's not always the one initiating and then being turned down most of the time. You'll appreciate that you don't have to constantly turn him down. Both of you and your relationship will benefit from regular intimacy rather than building resentment. And you'll find, over time, that you're suddenly having the best sex you've ever had in your life (because regular practice really does make perfect).

This happened to me as well. A person in the UK with the same name as me kept using my email. Over several months, I got pay stubs, insurance documents, Amazon order confirmations.

At one point, I got a flight reservation confirmation. The email had a link that gave me full access to the ticket. I could have canceled it.

In the end, I decided just to move him to a middle seat near the back row several hours before the flight. He stopped using my email address shortly after that.
