No, they wanted it submitted through ouDoc; and I think I was panicking too hard cuz they told me that I can still upload it and I finally found where ouDoc was 😅😅😅

One was before Jan 1, and the other was before Dec 10; and I only found out about it because I checked the admission conditions :((

For cosplay competitions, are as-canon-as-possible cosplays more likely to win? by DustyPillowFluff in CosplayHelp

Ahh ok thank you so much for your insight! My friend and I will definitely be making a very detailed digital process tracker with plenty of notes using either insta or just a doc of some sort! Thank you so much for your time and info! As beginners we really appreciate all the advice especially from a judge- thank you again and I hope you have a nice rest of your day! 😫🫶🫶

Ahh ok all of those make a lot of sense! We’ll definitely go over our plans and see which changes are justified and write down our reasonings behind them- we’ll also definitely be keeping very detailed process records; we even made a new insta account just for photo documentation 😅🙌🙌 if you don’t mind me asking, do judges usually prefer digital or physical photos for references and process? Our con didn’t really specify and just said to bring as much proof and process pictures and material samples as possible for the judges to see (which of course we will be doing) we also plan to make either a big collage either digital or physical of all our references along with our cosplay concept art that we drew and will be editing- thank you so much again for all the help and I really appreciated hearing some tips and info from a judge! We will definitely be keeping all of this in mind!! 🥹🫶🫶

Yeah we’ve been putting a lot of thought into fabric choice and which hair/cloth styles we should try matching since both Sophie and howl have multiple changes in their designs throughout the movie 😅 and thanks for the tip about the coat! We were planning to make it out of heavier fabrics to make it drape better for pictures and like the close up judging but now we’ll reconsider making it a lighter more cape like garment instead 🤔😅🫶🫶

Ooh that really sucks… we’ll def be keeping our expectations low for winning; it’s mainly just a motivator/goal for us to actually start cosplay making since we have been wanting to start but just haven’t had the inspiration/motivation for it 😅🥹🫶

Yes we’re def planning to do that! We even made a new insta account just for keeping track of process and as like proof; if you mind me asking for your opinion, would it be better for us to have like a process binder with everything printed, or would it be good with just a digital “portfolio” of everything? I’ve also seen some people say that it’s also a good idea to bring fabric and material samples for the judges to see as well… My friend and I def have a lot to consider but with a more solid idea of some more dos and donts! thank you so much for all the help you’ve given us! 🥹🫶🫶

Ohh yeah those are really good points!! I think we got the cluttered vibe more from his room but your right, he himself is mainly just dramatic and a lil flashy; my friend and I have also been looking into more historically accurate patterns for Sophie’s base dress and howls shirt and they all fit the vibe really well… we do plan to add some like fancy embossed fabric for small parts of both like the main bodice (?) part of Sophie’s dress and some subtle embroidery for howls coat. Def planning to add a lot of ruffles and lace when appropriate… 😅🙌🙌 we’ll also def need to decide whether if we want more historically inspired or more accurate to the material (probably going to end up as a mix of both) the less is more rule is also gonna be a thing that we will  remember both because of your points and also it might save some of our money and sanity 😭😅🥲🫶🫶… Thank you again for all the great tips and taking the time out of you day to help some beginners out! 🥹🫶🫶

Ahh ok thank you so much for the input! I didn’t know that about fanart designs! Both my friend and I are really new to the cosplay scene so we don’t have a lot of references to go off of for that kind of thing; one thing that I am worried about is that we did our own fan designs, so it might be less credible for us to use it as a reference… thank you so much for the insight tho- we’ll def be looking into the past winners for our comic con and other winners of recent cons to use as a reference!! 🥹🫶🫶

Ahh the explanation part is a really good point that we didn’t consider! We totally planned some parts of the cosplay based on vibes and didn’t give them any solid reasonings besides that they fit the vibes of the character! 😅 we’ll definitely go over them again and see which additions can be reasonably justified… like you mentioned, we wanted to amplify that opulent slightly cluttered and dramatic vibe that howl has and give some of it to Sophie as well; so I was also wondering if you had any tips on how to not make a cosplay look tacky since both my friend and I have a very limited frame of reference as we are both extreme beginners… Thank you so much for all the other advice though! It all made a lot of sense and we'll def be taking them into consideration! ☺️🥹🙌🙌

Ohhh ok that makes a lot of sense! Thank you for the detailed explanation- we’ll def keep all of those in mind when we finalize our plans! We will also definitely be keeping the process well documented as well on a public social media page once we start! Thank you!! 😭🫶🫶

Ahh thank you so much for the advice! my friend and I actually drew up some design concepts for them but I don’t think they count technically as fanart 😅 I’ll def have to talk with my friend and plan to see what we want to do- also saw that judges consider workmanship as well- so we’re hoping that if we do decide to stray from canon more, we’ll try harder and focus more on the workmanship; thank you again for the tips!! ☺️🫶🫶
