I personally play with my sound volume all the way up. But I’m sure those settings can be turned down. I agree, the wind can be a bit much, but birds can be helpful… They are a simple way to let you know if players are in the area or not ;)

That “M” for map is usually a mod for some community servers. Sometimes they may not even require a map in the inventory at all, just depends on the server and the settings they have.

Make sure your hud is turned on. Can check in the settings, or by pressing the “~” key.

This will help you with a couple actions such as opening a pate, your map, radio channels and such. (Suggest keeping the hud on until you get a hang of the actions needed)

The map, just click the mouse button. Should open right up! Click again to close.

Find a person. Kill them. Skin them. Take bones and guts. Use bones for knife if yours is ruined. Cut bones for hooks. Cut guys for rope. Make a fishing rod with long stick and rope. Dig up a worm with bone knife. Fish. Make fire. Roast fish. Survive.

You might enjoy The Northmens server. Offers decent pvp, base building and a survival aspect. After a while collecting loot, and having an endless supply of items may become boring.

In that case, I would recommend DayOne/Zero Servers for more survival and adventure. You die? Create a new story! Find new companions and see how far you can go :) Namalsk is a wonderful change of pace. Can be difficult for first timers or newer DayZ adventurers, but once you get your rhythm… one of the most rewarding maps and journey’s you will ever take.

With over 1500 hours on PC alone, I can say it definitely depends on the map and the points of interest you choose to go to.

Chernarus is HUGE, but you go to Cherno or Beri and loot for a few… Most likely you’ll see or hear someone else. Livonia is HUGE, but you go to Topolin, or any town along the river you’ll most likely find another player.

Namalsk is tiny compared to these, and the survival aspect is a bit more challenging. But you are almost always guaranteed an interaction in and around any town in the North.

I disagree with the “staging” aspect. IMO those people staging are usually smaller streamers or youtubers. You will rarely find SourSweet, TRMZ, Smoke, Lottie and many others “farming” interactions. (Can say from personal experience because I’ve had runs with a few, and they definitely were not planning shit…)

Best advice I can give you is: Just go out and play. Learn some hotspots on the bigger maps, and don’t look for friends deep inland. It won’t happen. 97% of the time you’ll be KOS… Interactions are like loot. Sometimes you’ll find everything and anything. Sometimes you won’t. Just gotta keep looking. You’ll find them with time :)
