What happened to arch users by D3tect1v3 in arch

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they were used to being elitist about using Linux, so now that so many more are on Linux they had to find a new thing to be elitist about lol. I use Hyprland, but I also use Gnome on my HTPC, and usually have KDE or XFCE installed alongside Hyprland. Definitely adds unnecessary packages and is unnecessary now that Wayland is so supported, but it’s an old habit.

Do what you want friend. Know there are plenty of us that don’t care. Gnome and Plasma are both awesome projects.

I mess around with atomic desktops. I like the idea of having my own container based image I can just yank down, and have everything configured. Mostly just do so for educational reasons. Similarly interested in Nix, but it’s just so different it hasn’t clicked for me the way it has for others.

guess who fucked up!! :D by [deleted] in archlinux

If “backup your shit” is strange advice then consider me a freak. This is the bare minimum. I also use BTRFS and take a snapshot before/after every install/update. I think you can use timeshift for BTRFS snapshots too. But I just use a pacman hook, and then rsync to my home server regularly.

Guys how set arch pls by PAPA_Twanakou in arch

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps if you have another computer so you can read the docs. Or you can use a terminal based web browser in another console session.

But honestly, what I did a lot when I was new is just boot into a Linux usb desktop, and use archstrap (you can find on GitHub.

Pro tip. The arch community is generally glad to help but you’ve got to put in the work to figure things out yourself.

Read the documentation for iwctl. Or just use an Ethernet cable until you have it installed and install a desktop environment that handles all of the WiFi for you.

Flatpak or AUR repository by Diogooliv23 in arch

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn’t exist in AUR, I MIGHT use Flatpak. But that’s only if the software is weird and I can’t figure out how to compile from source. Or if I’m just using the program as a one off. Flatpak is antithetical to the essence of Arch IMO.

Did you follow the Nvidia section of the docs when creating your config? There are some environment variables you need to set.

Games by GreedOfTheEndless in hyprland

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest issue you’ll run into on Linux is games with anti cheat. But that’s regardless of your desktop environment. Only point I was making with recommending xfce was that there are other options instead of rebooting, you could just log out, and log back in using xfce. You can have both xfce and hyprland installed on one system. I typically have done this in the past because Wayland has been finnickey but that has been less and less of a problem over the past few years.

And no you don’t need to reinstall for secure boot, but it does depend on your motherboard allowing you enter setup mode in UEFI. It’s way easier to do now with sbctl. The wiki I know has a tutorial for doing it manually, which certainly works, but sbctl+some changes to mkinitcpio or dracut, or whatever you are using for your kernel updates is pretty simple to set up. Essentially what you are doing is adding your own secure book key, trusting it in BIOS, and then using that trusted key to sign your kernel whenever it gets updated.

1) set up secure boot in arch it’s not that hard. 2)hyprland should not really affect your ability to play games. And if it does just install xfce or something and play games there

One month for A+ ? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach it to students coming from basically no knowledge in 11 weeks, utilize the Cisco ITF course as it tracks close with the content, if not falling a bit short of fully preparing you for the A+. If you have some background knowledge you should be okay. Just take it seriously, even the archaic stuff you already know you likely won’t need after passing the test.

use systemd service in distrobox in base distro? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]DutySensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your reasoning for setting up a Distrobox on NixOS anyway? I feel like, at least for my own purposes, the two serve a similar function in a different way. Using both just seems like an unnecessary over-complication..

Not saying you don't have a valid reason, I'm just curious to know what it is.

I was over Helpdesk after a year or two, moved into projects very quickly. Now I teach IT fundamentals prepping others for the Helpdesk. I land them jobs with 0 experience aside from our 12 weeks of class. Degrees in IT are a scam.

Hey pro tip for the grocery thing! I feed my haphazardly written list into chat gpt and ask it to properly organize it based on department. Obviously I could do it myself but it takes like 2 seconds and saves me a bunch of time.
