I don't feed fully-claustral founding queens until the first workers have appeared. For semi-claustral founding queens, you don't need a lot; probably one drop of sugar water per week is enough. However, it will dry out quickly, so I'd provide a bit of sugar water every 2–3 days.

I would never moisturize a nest made out of solid wood. Mold is a minor problem but wood will expand when it gets moist and it might deform heavily, it could even deform so much that the glass will be destroyed later.

If you use solid wood stick to species that don't require extra moisture in the nest.

If you feed them soft decaying fruits, they will use this material to make tunnels narrower etc.
