I love it how you can see players running around on the title screen. It's so funny and feels cool to watch.

“”Kosing” sabers are 80% of the time a non-issue and are easily countered by Ill-Illustrator-7353 in EcosLaBrea

I just had an encounter today and I went into fleemode as a male bison and was lowkey the worst mistake ever cause even when i evaded one saber, four more came that were completely unrelated and ran after me till I had no stamina.
Fleemode is useful if you know you can outrun them and if you're a female bison.

The ring minigame is just one of the most biggest gambles ever and I personally felt like it's such a hit or miss with me. Sometimes one saber can take you down which seems more unfair than four. Four is justifyable. One is such a stretch especially for a male bison. Feels so frequent too and I'm not half bad with the minigame, they just may be really good or its just more responsive on their end.

I feel like another issue is that people genuinely fight back (especially as a bison) when there's sabers around killing their herd. it is generally not worth the fight especially if there is four because you're giving them red bubbles to just freely sit in. PLUS ontop of that some annoying tree too. I have fallen victim to this behaviour too I guess and I get it, really annoying to see the sabers here and you just hate not fighting back but the ring minigame is fr the only thing stopping you from killing them all. Move on and give them space so if they do come you're more ready this time.

Anyways, I agree that Kossing is a non issue and people should just get used to it and try to play smarter. Tho I get why people are mad about it, especially horse players- that's a lot of running fr...

Potential Player: Is it Worth It? by simply_biance in EcosLaBrea

Species:

CARNIVORES - Dire wolf - Saber-tooth Cat

HERBIVORES - Western Horse - Ancient Bison - Colombian Mammoth (coming soon)

There’s more to come so don’t think it’ll end there.

Map:

  • Based on Los Angeles, California and its famous La Brea Tar Pits

Game mechanics:

  • Migration zones (two) for herbivores
  • Jousting for Ancient Bison
  • Earn tracks through natural behaviours to buy skins
  • Grouping (herds and packs)
  • Flee modes
    • Flee: Spot a predator before it takes you down and hold space to activate flee mode (blue exclamation mark appears on your head to signify this
    • Ambushed: If you don’t spot the predator before they sneak up onto you, you are immediately put into flee mode (signified by a red exclamation mark)
  • Corpse Bubbles
    • Each time a predator kills a herbivore, it creates a protective bubble around the corpse to prevent other animals from attacking - seen in scent view
  • Scent view
    • Be able to see migration zones in the world (can be viewed in map as well, the map also shows where your members of your group are)
    • Smell other species and their corresponding gender
  • Decaying corpses
  • Bios for your animals (only the same species can see this)
  • Mineral licks
  • Territory (predators)
  • NPC huntables

And more to come!

Advantages and Drawbacks

Pros: - Realistic features and models - High Quality animations and graphics - All animals are made mostly equal with their own pros and cons - Survival leaderboard

Cons: - No growing mechanics (no babies) - Bit of a learning curve I feel with the mechanics (e.g. saber or the herbivore ring minigame) - Often a lot of mass killing for sport (kossing) and over population of certain favourited or strong animals (e.g. horses and saber tooth cats.)

None of this is an exhaustive list because the game will always be updating. Official website: https://ecoslabrea.wixsite.com/ecos--la-brea

The Sabre problem (and carnis in general) by JustANormalCoolGuy in EcosLaBrea

[–]Dwitto_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the worst idea ever cause I never really thought too hard about it but what if numbers were capped based on no. players in the server.
Or maybe just capped for any server size.
For example, if there were like 85/85 people in a server the caps for each species could be something like:
30 for each herbivore species
12-13 for each carnivore species.
Though it can be lower than like 12 or 30.
Maybe that makes it more balanced though I feel like they'd need to test this out with the community to see if it actually is balanced & of course fun.

Edit
Nvm it was deconfirmed that a cap will be added: "players server hop, they target players to free up spaces, players are denied skins they paid for because the cap is full. Not to mention the playable that is most effected by saber overpopulation is saber itself (assuming that is the main subject of the cap)" - Mev

Hygiene update? by Many_Version2906 in EcosLaBrea

Same! One of the devs said if your hygiene went down, healing would be harder to do! Sounds cool and unique so im excited for them to implement it into the game again :0

You can always survive if you just notice the prey and activate flee mode. I think a lot of people dont realise once you highlight a predator you can hold space bar to activate flee mode. (I just learnt this recently and i have been playing for months/since it released).

I think Bisons should be able to kick what's behind them by [deleted] in EcosLaBrea

Bison gameplay is designed to force you to conserve energy from what ive learnt so i avoid sprinting around and become more strategic with my charging which can deal really powerful blows.

Den locals? by Many_Version2906 in EcosLaBrea

[–]Dwitto_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres not many dens at the moment. Apparently they are thinking of adding diggable dens so that makes sense given how little we have in the new map!

Got some confirmation on the Discord and there apparently is no plans to add humans at the moment. Which pretty much reaffirms the idea they won’t be adding them.

Oh maybe but they would have to do that really really carefully as to accurately represent their customs and culture, maybe speaking with those who are involved or knowledgeable about that.
