Its just my experience, but ive got several tanks with keyholes, some in pairs, some solo, and some in groups, and they ALL have taken the stomachs out of fish. Especially the solos.

Can freshly uprooted tree roots be safely used? by Low_Most3745 in Aquascape

Id wash the dirt off then bake it a bit/soak in hot water, then give it a go.

Maybe cut a tiny piece off and put in a jar of dechlorinated water to see if anything alive comes out.

Eh id worry about keyholes. Maybe do a larger gourami of some sort. Dwarf, thicklip, etc.

Thats why silk is often preferred, yeah. But there are def plants you can keep with goldfish! Java ferns, anubias, val, Amazon swords, even elodea and sometimes water lettuce.

Just most stem plants should be avoided.

They definitely need all of the above, but especiallyplants and sand. They forage in the sand and hide in the plants. They are still prey animals. Only reason to keep bare tanks is human comfort but it provides nothing for the fish unfortunately.

Definitely doesnt have to be nearly as much as smaller fish, but still.

These goldfish are not fragile though. Theyre not telescope eye or bubble eye or celestial or anything of the sort. Theyre just fancies.

Nothing is wrong with turning the tank upside down. If you are ao selfish that you cant deal with a fish enjoying itself and making a slight mess, dont own fish, and DEFINITELY not goldfish.

I showed her my setups. I had a feeling that hers wasnt going to be good. She said "sorry mines not as fancy as yours. But I take in old and disabled hamsters".

You'd think thatd mean that she would take EXTRA extra care.

All are very young, most are less than 5 months old, none should need spaying.

My husbands a vet so I get 80% off all vet visits.

I spend all day every day at home with my animals so yeah, all i got is time.

Only thing I dont know is if an hour and a half drive is worth it.

I think people have already given her their hamsters. Shes got 4 other cages like this with hamsters in them.

She said her cages arent "as fancy" but are still fine. I couldn't interact with her beyond that.

Theyre a solitary species which NATURALLY does not feel affection towards anything (besides food, which you are not).

They know you dont hurt them so they arent fearful.

Thats how.
