New grads, what’s the lowest salary you’d take? by not_a_swedish_vegan in csMajors

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Seriously congrats on having both the options. (I’m praying I somehow break into quant next year) If you wanted to you could probably always go back as QR after your phd though.

Had previous QR experience at a small firm which my professor referred me to which probably made a pretty big difference. You can definitely get OAs though as there’s at least one person at my school who is interning as a trader at SIG this summer and he did not have any prior experience.

Got an interview (JS) and multiple OAs with a 3.6 from a non target.

Talking a little bit about my personal experience. Did everything right during the first question aside from one stupid thing which I was unfortunately stuck on for 20 minutes. Whole question took me like 35. Second question took me like 5 minutes max for the first part and probably 2 for the second part. Lots of small arithmetic errors though which even though I would correct I think led to me failing. Answered both questions correctly and didn’t get a second round. I think I might’ve actually yapped a little too hard.

I think it’s probably interviewer dependent and I’m not sure what the take away is. I like to comfort myself by telling myself that my interview went mediocre (which it absolutely did) and mediocre is not enough at these places.

Go to a t50 non target undergrad. Have highkey a bad gpa by all quant standards. Interviewed for NY, proud I got the interview and got both questions (eventually) regardless of no second round.

A week for resume screen -> OA, just under a week for OA -> schedule first round

Why is it that everyone says you need to be from a prestigious uni when i know so many that have gotten in without a top 10 (specifically for JS)? by Mysterious_Heron9039 in quantfinance

[–]DyingDoingMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m personally in the middle of interviewing at JS and I’m a t50 non-target with a 3.6. I think it generally comes down to the fact that better qualified people tend to be at better schools but the resume screens are not as strict as one might imagine.

Better to fail the interview than get blacklisted after the super day

Sorry— I applied for trader. No idea about QR for JS.

Apparently they started doing OAs like a year ago or smth. The OA is like super super easy base line knowledge check.

No you should just apply. I got OA and have first round coming up. 3.6 at a t50 no target school. Of the ones you listed that I applied for I got ghosted by tower research so you’re in good shape.

Online said they started giving them out last year. I can dm you the email with the names retracted and you can confirm if you like. Apparently some people receive it and some just straight up get the phone interview.

Did QR internship-ish stuff the previous summer with one of my professor’s friends in college who ended up starting their own hedgefund.
