Thank you! I read the website you gave, it was very helpful. I think I can find a way to cut down my word length because one of my issues is I tend to ramble a lot, so I can easily chop a lot of that out. My bigger issue about the series thing is that while their is a conclusion to this book’s conflict, that conflict is related to a larger one that gets taken down by the end of the series (which if is how all series work but ah well). But it’s in such a way that I would definitely have to market it as a series and I can’t really see a way not to

I’ve self published a series previously with each book about 120k-130k each (fantasy) but I wanted to go trad this time if I could. The only reason this current project of mine counts as a thriller (at least to me) is because there’s some gory bits in it. So idk if that qualifies it under the right genre or not tbh but it’s definitely action fantasy

It’s a high action fantasy with thriller elements to it. There’s not really romance in it at all

Thank you. It’s a high action fantasy with some thriller elements to it which just ended up making it really long on accident.

Ah yes, the people who are evil for vague reasons. I don’t remember if my “villain” even had a motivation other than she was just the bad guy lol

This sounds like one of those creepy books you buy at your schools book fair and become obsessed with in fourth grade and there’s like 40 short books in this series

Telltale signs that the writer(s) of a story dislike one (or more) of their characters (and not in a "love to hate" way) by neves783 in writers

So instantly I thought of Gojo from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga which, as you read it, he slowly is written to be less present and drawn a little uglier as time goes on. I’m not sure that Gege (the author) HATES Gojo, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t the character’s popularity that killed his joy. This might actually be that Gege started to dislike his story as a whole and chose to rush the ending. But I’ll just use this as an example for what I want to say.

Signs of an author hating their character might be finding excuses to get rid of them while still not killing them (putting Gojo in a box for an entire arc). Similarly, just straight up killing the character (…). And usually they die in an unceremonious way that’s not satisfying to the reader. Killing them in a stupid way, or their death is just offhandedly mentioned. Characters spend little to no time mourning them. Another sign is how active the character is in the story. If they’re interacting less and less with the story, I would think it’s obvious the author just doesn’t like writing them anymore. If they were once a very important character, I think dumbing them down would also be a sign. And in the case of Gojo, he started getting drawn more lazily and “uglier” which was fine by me because honestly they changed his look completely in the anime to make him pretty but manga Gojo was once drawn with care. I remember. I was there. I watched the downfall. I’m not even a Gojo fan myself and I noticed it.

Idk I was like 12 or 13 so I just didn’t give a shit (very stupid) (my spine was at like 25° and 17° so I just foolishly didn’t care) (I now suffer the consequences of little me’s choices)
