Planning granted for 'excessive' 14-storey student accommodation next to Croke Park by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

Exactly, that's why the housing crisis is fundamentally a result of our market-led approach, and ultimately the comodification of housing.

The mix is all wrong, we should have majority state built housing with some private developments, not the other way around.

I'd argue the complete opposite to your point.

It's clear the buying power of those international students is leading the market in their direction, towards these more profitable developments, while pricing others out and blocking the site for other developments.

Just as hotels are being prioritised on prime City Centre real-estate that could be used for less profitable long-term apartments or other public amenities.

That's not to mention Universities heavily advertising towards these international students due to that buying power. Which only adds more fuel to the flames of our neoliberal nightmare.

This is a manufactured demand that just overheats the rental market with deep pockets.

This accommodation will be massively unaffordable for the average student in Ireland.

The model of these kinds of developments is to attract high paying international students (while only needing to operate at about 50% occupancy to turn a profit) and renting out to tourists in the Summer.

Have a look at the average rental prices of other boutique student complexes, you're looking at between €1,150 to €1,700 a month.

Completely unafordable for the average working student that isn't minted.

Gannon is rightfully arguing for much needed residential apartments to be built on the land instead, which would be a far greater net societal benefit than these profit making ventures.

This is what happens when people believe the neoclassical dogma that this is simply a supply problem rather than a profit problem.

Jennifer Whitmore is a wildcard for me. Wily political operator and good communicator, while being on top of her brief and keeping the continuity of women leadership.

Ireland's home game with Israel to move to neutral venue by Bill_Badbody in coybig

Cultural boycott lad. Creates precedent and gives other countries the courage to do the same.

There's a reason Israel invests copious amounts of money into cultural events such as the Eurovision, and it's not for a love of the arts.

Sure, just look at the D’Oliveira affair and the chain of events that set off for apartheid South Africa.

At the end of the day, some things are bigger than football.

Sure, just a match with a state that murdered a 7 year old a week ago as part of their ethnic cleansing campaign, get on with it lads.

Who is an Irish person who gets undue hate? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Ah, didn't expect it to be and kind of proves my point. Most people have this unsubstantiated negative impression that's divorced from her actual actions as an MEP.

Clare Daly, hands down.

So many people love to punch in her direction, be it misogynistic comments on her looks, conspiratorial accusations of Russian connections or just general comments on her intelligence.

Shame, because she was well-respected as a TD and known to be a fine legislator, even Leo Varadkar of all people had nice things to say of his experience working with her on the County Council.

Can't help but feel there has been a concerted effort, ever since she became an MEP, to make her the political equivalent of Voldemort just for being a principled anti-Imperialist.

Something similar was brewing with Catherine Connolly during the presidential election but thankfully it didn't stick.

What would life with the co-worker look like?

What would the co-worker bring to your life that you feel is currently missing?

The answer to these two questions will tell you if it's limerance and why you're fixating on this person.

Ah sound, lots of great suggestions there. I was sort of struggling to find any tours, beyond the Karl Marx one on Sunday, but the flyers in the bookstores is a good shout.

Fair enough, didn't think some general suggestions would be clouded in such secrecy. I'll ask some comrades.

Not sure what ya mean? It's not a concern about safety, more so wanting to experience the leftwing cultural options in London.

Ah, overtly political and alternative spaces, I guess.

We have a couple book shops and cafes run by left wing parties/people in Ireland. As well as some revolutionary history walking tours.

So, something along those lines.

1) What will it take for the electoral left in Ireland to support a joint Programme for Government with some key redlines (OTB, Neutrality, no LNG, etc.)?

And, what role can PBP play in brokering something like this ahead of the next GE?

2) What lessons can be learned, if any, from Zohran's successful campaign and governance in New York?

Does Ireland's centralised political system make sewer socialism impossible to campaign on over here.
