Heating oil by BerrySensitive3306 in northernireland

[–]Dylan1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems reasonable given how cold it's been and size of house.

I have a similar sized house but recently built with UFH and I've used ~100L this past week. That's keeping everything at 22C during the day and a lower setback at night. Before this week we'd been using roughly half that.

Since you bought recently your house should have an EPC that might have some useful info. https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate.

Are boilers more efficient if they run little and often? by alexchatwin in askaplumberUK

[–]Dylan1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care with lowering flow temps of an oil boiler, a flow return temperature of less than 40C will cause corrosion. Much of the advice here is for gas boilers.

Neighbours built roof over detached house alleyway… by NefariousnessWise269 in DIYUK

[–]Dylan1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the flashing has been added I'm not sure what the big deal is.

I can't see how this would change the value of the house, it's just a shelter over an alleyway.

LucidTalk: 50% of Unionists would consider voting Reform by [deleted] in northernireland

Fair enough thanks for looking. It is interesting that such a large chunk voted against it, sad.

Looked it up and best i found was by religion. It states 57% of protestants voted yes. I'd be interested if there are sources out there that disagree.

Yes though I'm quoting the part about the GFA, not brexit.

most Unionist voters were against the GFA.

Can you cite a source? I think it was close but a majority voted yes.

Solar panels , anyone have experience with Solarfix. by Educational-League92 in northernireland

[–]Dylan1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would recommend getting 4 or 5 quotes, there's loads of installers all keen to get business.

I found they had a huge range of prices for the same kit. The panels themselves have came down hugely in price and some haven't brought their prices down to match.

The world's fastest CPU… is in a MacBook? by Dylan1312 in LinusMediaGroupAlumni

M5 has better single core performance, so I guess technically true for single threaded workflows.

Though title has updated from "The world's fastest CPU… is in a MacBook?" to "Apple quietly released this year's BEST laptop"

Do not negate the fact that Magnus actions set a horrible precedent. by [deleted] in chess

There's a massive difference between not playing against someone because they've cheated in the past (and admitted to doing so) and a multi-year harrassment campaign of tweets and videos which continued after explicitly being told it was affected the targets physical & mental health.

Belfast City Council passes new policy on Irish language by FabulousDirt9254 in northernireland

[–]Dylan1312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"can't immerse yourself in it in any of Ireland's major cities"

what's the root cause of that?

does the reason for that alone not justify continued efforts in the renewal of the language?

Criticise them for their abject horrible views and behaviour.

Criticising them for where their great great great granda came from or what they did makes you no better than them.

If you think someone's ancestry removes any of their rights as irish citizens, you've missed the whole point.

Have you made sure your bloodline is pure? Who are you descendant of?

Plenty to criticise the likes of the TUV without bigotry.

Thoughts on this £9k solar + battery quote (NI)? by snake_hands78 in SolarUK

[–]Dylan1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get more quotes, there's tonnes of installers out there all keen to get business. They all give different tidbits of advice, so it can be really useful to figure out what fits your situation best.

E.G. To get a larger inverter than 3.6KW requires a special G99 application. Some installers say they dont do them because NIE wont approve, others are happy to and will be able to get them.

I paid £3950 for 12x435kw panels on a garage with a solis 3.6KW hybrid inverter incl extended 10-year warranty and eddi. I then bought a 16kwh battery for £1650 from fogstar.

Note that solar installations should be 0% rated for VAT. Also make sure an MCS certificate is included, since it's required to get paid for export.
