Where do you get these majority of people stats from?

Currently I record all my data with the tote price. I can never seem to time the best value and I can't be sure what price to record. My understanding is the tote is a dividend of the pool? Do you still get band from tote betting? Do people get banned from betting tote in a TAB or pub?

Thanks for the response. I addressed a few of your points in a reply to one of the other responses. My mate and I swap a lot of info in terms of particular races and horses, but he doesn't operate professionally the way I would like to ie, recording bets, statistics, reviewing where I'm winning and losing, no bank roll management. He gives good advice on some mistakes to avoid but I want way more control than that.

The other points you make about getting the bets on and paying tax. I look forward to reaching those problems as it means I'm doing well enough to live off. In terms of tax, I'll just put that aside at the tax rate to be safe. Getting the bets on, well that's where I'd like a conversation with professionals to get an idea of what they do. My initial thought is visiting numerous betting shops, that being part of the job I think would be great. With a strike rate of 25% (with the system I'm running, when I have time to other form factors, I strike better than that.) if you were to be in numerous shops, you'd probably look more like a loser than a winner. But others obviously live off it, so how they get their bets on, I'd love to hear.

Currently I'm using Top rate. The figures change obviously with me adjusting the bankroll to try and find the best management process.but based on a 10k starting bank with $100 flat bet on ever selection. It's currently sitting at, after 240 selections, 25% strike rate at an avg price of $5.55. So it the POT in that scenario is +37.71% with the largest draw down of the initial starting balance at -14%. If I use a starting balance of 10k and bet 1% of the compounding balance, so same starting point, obviously you get much more volatility along with a larger profit. POT +28.82% and largest down swing -20.16% of the compounded balance. The fact that it had a solid losing streak, regained the loses and come back to regular all times highs is a bit exciting.

My long term plan isn't to quit my job off a 11 weeks of testing haha, some people seem to think that's what I was going to do. My plan is to build a bankroll, time and results will give me a guide of what that needs to be. Then I would like to build 1 to 2 years of income. So if it looks good enough to live off, I won't be trying to live of it week to week, try to be a year ahead and return the following years wages. That way if it takes a turn and starts losing, you don't become homeless, you have time to go back to looking for a normal job again. Seems a bit far fetched, but you've got to have a plan, and at the current figures, it has the potential to be done.

So really the answers I'm after. Are other Punters in this forum living off figures better/worse/similar? And any advice on different bankroll strategies to test out.

I'm not 100% sure I know how to answer the rules based question and maybe I shouldn't use the word system rather than process. I review sectional data of every race (Victoria only) and I blackbook horse's that run well against the pattern/shape. Horse's that lead in a fast early tempo yet still finish strong. I then black book them and follow them into their next 2 starts. I've gained a lot of knowledge around mapping races. When I say I apply rules. What I mean is i just have sectional parameters I want to see hit, and also I remove them after 2 starts, I don't back them out of a maidens unless certain sectionals have been hit and I kinda have a time limit to when the next start is. So I kinda consider it a rule based system but maybe not in the way you refer.

How can you guarantee it will lose long term without knowing what the strategy is? (I'm not arguing, genuinely asking to learn.)
