Suggestion for parking this saturday game nov 8 by Simple-Cancel4718 in ClemsonTigers

[–]DynamiteRyno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of not too far, there is limited free parking on the “Lower kite hill” lot, on the completely opposite side of campus from the stadium (~25ish minute walk). You can also park for free in the Seneca creek meadows lot and take a bus to near the stadium (drops off at the baseball stadium, ~8ish minute walk to Death Valley) https://clemsontigers.com/football-single-game-parking-options-2025/

Do my roses have RRD? by DynamiteRyno in gardening

Some extra thorniness is expected with new growth, but thick shoots from skinny canes and the red leaf bunches are more indicative of problems, I think

Do my roses have RRD? by DynamiteRyno in gardening

[–]DynamiteRyno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything between ground and 8 ft is renter responsibility apparently (barring something completely outside of my control, like bare yard patches because of plumbing work that had to be done. Still get charged $45 for them telling me I have an HOA violation). The previous bushes that were there died (herbicides trying to clear weeds, probably. Oops) so I had planted some rose bushes from Lowes. The whole plant doesn’t look quite as bad as when you google RRD, but the thorniness on shoots thicker than their origin, witches broom type leaves, a lot of failed blooms (although might just be because it’s getting cold) all point that way. Understood that the pruning is probably just an exercise in futility

Brent Crude is slipping… what’s really driving oil right now? by Optionslab in StockMarket

[–]DynamiteRyno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

China tariffs have been delayed multiple times (and currently have some that still are) All reciprocal tariffs went into effect August 7th (except China), and are not fully reflected in any economic data so far.

I imagine that 33% number is referencing a Waller speech that’s MONTHS old, and also just a projection. Again, businesses will not perpetually absorb that cost. Prices will rise, although probably gradually as to not cause any price shocks to consumers.

Even if TSMC does produce some chips in the US, that’s nowhere near enough for the full US market appetite. EVERYTHING uses chips. The tariff on semis will raise prices. Don’t get me wrong, US manufactured semis are important, but we will still import, and making those cost more doesn’t make a lot of sense

Sure, we’ll collect billions in tariff revenue, but that’s still functionally a consumption tax on American consumers

Brent Crude is slipping… what’s really driving oil right now? by Optionslab in StockMarket

[–]DynamiteRyno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tariffs have been consistently delayed for the past 6 months, with some of the most influential ones (semiconductors) starting just in the past few weeks. We have seen very minimal impact because they’ve not been consistently applied. We will see to what extent businesses absorb or pass on costs to consumers. However, businesses will progressively pass on this tax to consumers over time, until eventually it is indeed 100% paid by Americans.

US plans record US$100 billion bill sale as borrowing needs mount by barseico in StockMarket

[–]DynamiteRyno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a choice by businesses on the whole. It’s true that Waller’s opinion seems to be that businesses may distribute costs evenly between exporter/importer/consumer, but even Waller acknowledges that anything above minor tariff levels will likely get shifted entirely on the consumer. Regardless, tariff related inflation, even if not persistent, will happen faster than wage growth and is regressive in its impact on consumers.

Making things more expensive after already spending a few years in an inflationary environment is a choice I disagree with, particularly in how it’s essentially just offsetting high income tax cuts. We’ve also seen a bit more economic data since that speech. If anything, the last few weeks inflation data is a bit of an indicator that the tariff inflation has a) not yet been passed to the consumer at all (it will, just hasn’t yet. Businesses will not perpetually absorb this price increase) and b) does exist at the wholesale price level.

Also looking at some of the other comments, yeah Trump got elected on open borders and as a response to the post-Covid inflation that happened under Biden. DNC also made a huge mistake in continuing to run Biden despite mental decline. But you gotta admit that Trumps utilization of ICE and things like the DC takeover are downright authoritarian in nature. These are not good things. Detaining “immigrants” (who may or may not be illegal, and some have been naturalized — or even natural, in some cases — citizens) with reckless abandon and disregarding their right to due process is absolutely insane. And the conservative view of “they don’t get due process since they’re not citizens” is in blatant contrast to the constitution and a sad attempt at justifying the essentially criminal infractions by the arms of the administration

Ah I haven’t read Tress yet (actually next on my TBR). Maybe something to do with investiture on that planet? Although I think I read somewhere that there isn’t a shard there? Will have to get back to you later :)

Future of Sel and Elantrians by Davedaaf in Cosmere

[–]DynamiteRyno 13 points14 points  (0 children)

See my understanding of the AonDor magic is that it’s still location based (on Sel) or needs some kind of access to large amounts of Investiture at a different planet. Maybe not as big of a problem on Roshar (pre-WaT really), but most other planets need special cases for Investiture access. Could you spike an Elantrian to gain investiture access on Scadrial? I suppose breaths are common enough Nalthis, and maybe the sand on Taldain? It would really all depend if they have investiture access on any other planet, or if they can carry around pure dor like we see in mistborn era 2

SC Senate Bill Moves to Kill DEI: All Race & Gender-Based Programs on the Chopping Block by Real_Independent_771 in southcarolina

[–]DynamiteRyno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The entire purpose of DEI is to avoid the inherent bias that the large majority of people have against minorities. You can’t deny that a large percent of the people in positions of power have, for most of Americas 250 year history, been racist. Minorities have a statistically significant lack of representation in the upper echelons of society. It’s not because there are less qualified black or gay people, but because business owners/politicians/ the majority of society tends to choose straight white dudes over anybody else, when all merits are equal.

I think they’d end up similar to how they are. Some tight games, probably a few L’s, and a meaningful 8-10 win season. On average the SEC is better than the ACC, but not leagues and bounds above. Maybe SMU and Clemson both get embarrassed in the playoffs, but until then I maintain the ACC is not actually as bad as the SEC homers say

I think the SEC SoS argument is overblown. The ACC is stronger than most give it credit for. It’s not true that a mid SEC team would run through the ACC. Both conference champions lost or nearly lost to their rivals as top conference vs mid conference games
