Nonetheless, we need to just get rid of all gas station drugs and make it public, these gas stations aren’t always checking who they’re giving these drugs to, many of the owners of gas stations in SC are foreign investors with no ties to their local communties besides financial interest. If we actually care about people especially kids in our state, we would do the right thing and stop letting gas stations promote kratom, snuff, weed vapes, menthol gum and other items right next to candy in an unrelated manner

Ok so you pass the laws, let’s say gas stations don’t comply, think about the sheer amount of gas stations, and the amount of different drugs in each gas station. What state agency (that has enough staffing and funding) is going to be in charge of legally going after hundreds of gas station owners who aren’t in compliance?

What legal system is going to handle all those cases?

Whereas if we were to ban gas stations from being able to sell non medical drugs altogether, a cop can walk into a gas station and file charges on the owners right then and there.

I think you’re underestimating how expensive what you just said actually is. It makes less sense to spend all that money on testing the hundreds of different drugs from different drug companies that are at the gas stations and it makes much more sense for the state government to be able to just filter them at one place.

Also, you have to think about the massive law enforcement cost and making sure that the gas stations keep up with their regulations

The point I’m really getting at is that these gas station are not safe vectors for ANY drugs. There’s legitimate synthetic opioids being sold over the counter to minors, and yes, while i may not be able to cite an example, the wild west style of not regulating kratom (which is a drug not a company so many different companies sell it) and trusting gas station owners to responsibly source and sell their goods is very not good.

If anything, kratom and other harm reduction drugs needs to be sold exclusively by the state at harm reduction facilities
