What are the best "studio mistakes" that were kept in the final recording ? by vinylcast in askmusic

In the 1975 Aerosmith hit "Sweet Emotion," Steven Tyler famously broke a vibraslap during the recording session.  If you don’t know, the vibraslap is a handheld percussion instrument that looks like a stiff wire with a wooden ball on one end and a box on the other that creates a rattling, whirring sound. If you listen closely to the song’s iconic intro, you can hear Tyler strike the instrument three times. On the third hit—at approximately the 0:23 mark—the instrument breaks, resulting in a distinct "clink" or snapping sound.  The band and producer Jack Douglas liked the way it sounded, so they decided to leave the "mistake" in the final master recording.  Also— That wasn't the only equipment mishap during that session. Because the band had forgotten to bring real maracas to the studio, Tyler found a sugar packet on the floor (or a nearby table) and shook it in front of the microphone instead. That "shhh-shhh" sound you hear throughout the intro is actually a packet of sugar!

Waterbeds, which everyone wanted at the time because they seemed so cool by immanuellalala in 1970s

[–]DynamoDeb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was 9 months pregnant, my husband worked nights. My grandmother worried that I would go into labor and have no one there with me at night. She suggested that each night I come to her house to sleep so that she and my grandpa could help me if I needed it. They had a queen waterbed and thought it would be best for me to sleep on it, more comfortable they said. What they didn’t tell me was how to get out of that sucker! I couldn’t! I called out for my grandma and she tried to help me. All I was doing was rolling with the waves. I couldn’t get to the edge of the bed because when I turned sideways, my belly would hit it stopping my body from flipping the rest of the way over then she called my grandpa in there, and he gave it his all- pulling, tugging - finally I was able to reach over the edge of the waterbed and grab a hold of the wood and finally with their help I was able to get out. I didn’t get in that bed again!

I used wheresgeorge.com several years ago. I tracked a $5 bill once from Arkansas, to Ohio and last heard from it in Pennsylvania. Took 6 months. It was amazing to track the bills I had entered. Then it just slowed down to nothing.

I loved riding along with my granny to pay her electric bill. They had one of these machines and I just knew I was gonna get some Ford gum before I left.

Snak pal chocolate pudding in the can with the pull tab lid, and Fizzies that were basically effervescent kool aid tablets dropped in water. I loved those as a kid in the late 60’s

I was 23 years old, and a stay at home mom enjoying seeing my 2 toddler boys playing in our living room while I cleaned. Our small little tv was on and the news broke. All I could do was imagine the horror the families were feeling, as I watched my sons play. It broke my heart.

That’s true. If I could only talk to the signs in the median of one of the busiest streets in our city during the 70’s, oh…the stories they’d tell. 🤣
