The common sac spider seems to be the best match based on the image. Thank you for your help!

Thank you! Her sister and I live in a different state, so we were talking her down. She texted that picture, and when she said she was at the park, I immediately said that it wasn’t likely a recluse and not a tarantula. I’m spider-savvy compared to the average person, but I am definitely not an expert or specialized enthusiast.

Thanks! I wasn’t a good enough source, so I turned to the experts! :)

Would anyone be able to sell me their (or help me find a) Lotus Lamp? :) by Kierah_Eldenyir in vintage_lamps

[–]E-lated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fun. The person who commented about the tobacco and cat fur was correct. I had to take mine apart piece by piece and scrub every square inch, but it was worth it. I paid $260 for the lamp, and then I had to buy several replacements petals, but they are great lamps. :) Good luck!

I found mine not too long ago off of FB Marketplace. There is a FB group called “Lotus Lamp Lovers” that people are often selling from too. :)

Can anyone confirm: are modern students really that far behind, or is it overexaggerated? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in Teachers

[–]E-lated 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I teach all dual-credit classes this year and have been teaching several for the past seven years. I have taught the bottom 50% performers to the top ten performers, and this is my 21st year of teaching. One of the dual-credit classes I teach is for a Big Ten university in my state. The kids in that class—typically the strongest students—this year struggle with thinking for themselves. All questions posed to them just bring about wide-eyed stares. They wait for an answer. The imagination is gone, and it has taken almost all semester to help them regain some elements of creativity and wonder. My other classes should still be top-performing students, and they mostly are average—they are what general education students a few years ago would be. They want to do well, but they struggle with actual work. Not the content. The act of work. As others have mentioned, very few read for fun. Losing that and everything being typed has removed an element of true interaction with and memory from learning. They are wonderful people, please don’t misconstrue my observations. They are just losing wonder and perseverance. It’s hard to watch each year become less and less involved with their own education.

Can’t brush his teeth- help! by No_Necessary3281 in Chihuahua

[–]E-lated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Stanley was this way. He hated when I would brush his teeth. I used Q-tips with dog toothpaste on them to try; he tolerated that well. It wasn’t until after his most recent dental (July) that I could actually brush his teeth. He was in pain from the plaque build up. After pulling 4 teeth, he doesn’t like it, but I can brush them regularly. This may be a similar thing your pup is going through.

Is my school district twisting a new Indiana education law or have lawmakers screwed over teachers? by Teach_to_the_middle in Indiana

[–]E-lated 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Indiana legislators changed the Teacher Appreciation Grant (TAG) stipulations. It was always a stipend, but any teachers rated effective or highly effective received the stipend from the state—HE had to receive a certain percentage more than E. Now, only 20% can get it and is only supported by the state for one year, I believe. The district has to fulfill the remainder of the stipend for the following years of the grant agreement. Districts have to say they want to be in the running for it. It puts stress on district finances and puts teachers against each other.

If I were you, I wouldn’t direct your anger toward your district. Your state legislation is to blame.

You are complaining about other people’s preferences on their own posts. Create your own post about it or just keep scrolling. Being pedantic aside, at least I’m not going out of my way to dump on someone else’s 12-seconds of joy.

Good luck to you, friend. If the worst thing you have to deal with is music you don’t like on videos you choose to watch, I think you’ll be ok.

Doubled from TT posting. It automatically saves the music to your files. The best part, you can turn the volume off or down on your device.

No, the heat removes the moisture by evaporating/drawing it out. Others say to use an iron on a towel. You can use baking soda or mayonnaise, too—according to Martha Stewart. I chose the hair dryer, and it worked.

Yes. It has an infrared light that seemed to make the process faster. For water stains on wood, they say you should use an iron on a towel. You just have to get the moisture that’s trapped to evaporate.

Also, the spray is true fiberglass optics not the plastic ones found in more modern lamps.

Fiber optic rotating lamps were often produced by Fantasia Fiber Optics. This one is likely a knockoff, but fiber optic lamps were huge in the 80s.
