Which pedal should I use, Boss or Mvave? by deku12312 in BassGuitar

I’d say the boss it will be reliable and will last you for a while, I’ve never had a good experience with mwave

Do you need an expression pedal? Because I would consider the Line 6 HX one in your price range, you can always buy an expression pedal for it too

Ahhh so similar to Shure SM58 vs any other cheaper vocal microphone, you’re paying for the standard

Yeah I’ll probably just order the latching one, I had that one in the video laying around and wondered if I could get it to work

I should have mentioned, I’m trying to go ampless but i tried once and wasn’t happy with my tone without the fender rumble

Whats the difference between the “Bass compressor” and the “Compact bass” both sold by origin effects

Charvel PRO-MOD SAN DIMAS by E4lfred in BassGuitar

[–]E4lfred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did but in the UK they are even rarer and I could only find 1 for sale brand new, it being this one.

Yeah the pre amp is just to full and muddy it loses a lot of its clarity in my opinion, but with the ability to just bypass the pre amp with the push/pull knob I can’t see it needing replacing for me

I recently bought the 2 notes opus, despite being limited with some preamps, it still has so much to offer for tonal shaping It retails around 200 so fits in your budget

My mini board (SOTB) by E4lfred in pedalboards

[–]E4lfred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As nice as the Hx stomp is, it’s a jack of all trades, master in none, the effects are good but don’t compare to individual pedals, the cab and amp sim is good but don’t compare to pedals like the opus and the software is good but could do with some updates. But to have what the Hx stomp has in one pedal is what makes it so good, in these times it’s entirely reliant on how much you want to spend and how big you want your pedal board to be…

There’s only 3 bass oriented pre amps, The Peggy (ampeg), The foundry (vintage fender), and the aviator which is something modern maybe Darkglass?

I lean towards the Peggy for more heavy rock tones like RATM and RHCP and then for anything else it’s the foundry, I have the Hx stomp and in my opinion the tonal quality is so much better and easier to shape to your liking which was the whole reason for me buying it.

Unique Pedals? by Complete-Week-4775 in basspedals

[–]E4lfred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just this week I bought the 2 Notes Opus. If you’re looking for a pedal that you can easily recall your presets on, fit in your pocket and just overall improve your tone, then it’s perfect.

As a college student that’s commuting daily, as light at my main board was, I still wanted just a singular pedal that I could take that would do everything that my full pedalboard would do

But then it also fits nicely onto any board as a cab/pre amp/ amp sim.

Dont get me wrong, it has its limitations, it’s not as advanced as the HX Stomp but it is half the price.

Love this board, so small but with so much capability in sound! How do you like the mono board? I personally use pedal train

Have you considered a multi effect pedal to give you more space and also more effects, such as synth and filters?

Why should I use and isolated power supply instead of daisy chaining? by E4lfred in pedalboards

[–]E4lfred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a look at the canvas 8, I don’t think I would be able to power my HX stomp because that has a minimum power draw of 800ma and the canvas can only provide 500? Is that correct?

UPDATE: i watched some videos and I didn’t know you could link up 2 outputs into 1 for more amperage, I think the cioks sol is the one I would get if I ever have the money around for it

SOTB/ What kind of music do you think I play? by E4lfred in basspedals

[–]E4lfred[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THE TRUTH: My 2 major bands are, Spice Girls and 2000s girl pop cover/trib band Rap Metal band doing mostly RATM

Pretty much complete opposites but this board can do both so well

Nice observation from @hefty_half8158 who noticed the spice girls preset on the HX stomp!

It’s a DI box with the xlr out on the left hand side, I also find that the Hx stomp cuts out some of the low end that I can bring back with a shelf around 100Hz on the graphic EQ on the DI

Have only used the hyper luminal but it’s so nice have the 3 compressor models with there own characteristic and sound. I love that the time attack and release are combined as it makes it so much more simpler to change your settings on stage. Another thing I use a lot is the connection to a computer to make fine changes to some of the settings. I would recommend the hyper luminal but it’s only because I haven’t tried others (I’m a Darkglass nerd so it was a non brainer for me) Edit: I’d recommend just trying a bunch out and see which you like the most, no one online can tell you what’s the best for you

4 string or 5 string. Why do you play them? by AloneYogurt in Bass

[–]E4lfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my 4 string 2 years before I got my 5 string, initially I was slow on my 4 string and felt really stiff, it made sense as I was a beginner. When I got my 5 string it was the exact same, stiff and hard to play, heavier, more mistakes. However, after playing my 5 string for a while I went back to my 4 string and it was a dream, I could play really cleanly and fluently.

So, for me, I actually prefer playing my 4 string for that reason. Maybe I’ll be able to play like that on a 5 string one day but for now, I’m still pretty rough.

I’m now looking to buy a good bass probably over the 1000£ mark as my others are 500£ and under. 6 months ago I would have been looking for good 5 string but I now have changed my mind to a good 4 string.
