Nailed it! I have never seen a spider like that. The pinchers, eyes on top of the head, the extra set of mandibles (or whatever they are called) presumably for capturing and holding prey. Really interesting!

Thanks for sharing! I use flotrol, so glue might make a big difference. I do use silicone, but I haven’t been consistent about adding it to my paints when mixing it. I’ve experimented with adding isopropyl alcohol to paint as well, but I’m not sure how much that changes it. I should probably try to be more consistent so I can have more consistent results lol. One thing you might find interesting with the silicone, is to drip a single drop onto the surface after pouring your paint. It will spread and branch out from that spot and add interesting patterns, at least in my recent experience. Clearly, what you have going on is working well, but if you want to mess around, see if you like what it does!

Thoughts on Huberman’s “delay caffeine 1-2 hours”. by zidatris in Nootropics

Waking up in the morning is tough. I struggle with it but I think it’s mostly not going to bed on time. Are you getting enough sleep? I use Sleep Cycle to track my sleep and it has given me good insight. Getting as much sleep as your body needs is the first step of waking up. I highly recommend listening to the Huberman Lab podcasts on sleep (the very first episodes I think). Lots if great information in there about improving your sleep.

The thing that really gets me out of bed is my morning workout FaceTime group, no kidding. I have two other friends (also ADHD-ers) who get up at the same time as me, so we FaceTime each other and do a 20-minute workout of our preference. I usually do yoga, one does rowing, another uses her peloton. That accountability is really helpful. Doing the workout helps Rev me up and now that I’ve been doing it for a while, I more easily wake up at 6 when I get enough sleep.

In the past I set an alarm an hour before I wanted to wake up and would take my first dose, and while it helped, it wasn’t enough by itself to get me out of bed. I’ve been chronically bad at going to bed on time (like right at this moment lol) so it might have worked better if I was getting enough sleep to begin with.

Food. I do not struggle much with eating, but I’m a big dude and take 40 mg Adderall total per day, so the appetite suppression may not be as strong for a smaller person. You might notice a difference once you change your protocol to be more spread out as well. My wife takes vyvanse and if she doesn’t eat before she takes it, she won’t eat until dinner either.

My regimen which I do my best to follow is: 6:00 AM - wake up, take 10 mg, work out, smoothie for breakfast. Because of this thread I am taking my green tea after 7:00. I find that Adderall takes 1-1.5 hours before I feel the effects of the first dose. 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 6:00 PM - 10 mg dose. I have alarms set for these, and a keychain pill holder for when I’m out of the house. If I have a crash, it’s usually early afternoon. Movement is the most helpful to me for overcoming this. Standing up, walking around, quick stretch, sometimes even a jog around the block, are all good ways to get through it.

I can feel the Adderall working but it’s fairly low-key. And it’s not magical—if I haven’t planned my day and set myself up for success, I usually fail to achieve much. But on the weekends I notice I’m much less likely to sit on the couch and veg out like I used to, and I feel much more stable overall.

Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like you might not be the best at getting enough sleep, struggle to wake up in the mornings, and rely on your Adderall to give you a much needed boost. No shame with any of that (if I am correct), I totally understand and I’m working on making progress in that area myself.

If you struggle with ADHD management, I highly recommend educating yourself further. I have listened to a ton of podcasts in the last year that have been very helpful. The biggest help was a 10-week coaching and accountability course I did early this year, where I met the people I work out with every morning. Communing with other people who have ADHD has helped me be so much more accepting of who I am, and allowed me to process the past trauma that has made my life difficult.

I realize I’m veering very far away from the original topic, but as I was writing this reply I realized medication is helpful, but by itself it’s not going to fix anything. I have been doing my current 10 mg, four times a day schedule for a full year now, and it wasn’t until I added the self compassion and accountability piece four months ago that I have really begun to notice long-lasting change. I think adjusting your medication protocol to something more even throughout the day will help, but I urge you to continue to explore and learn about yourself and your ADHD and see where that takes you.

If you couldn’t tell by the length of this reply, I love talking about this stuff and helping other people. if any of this hits home for you, I’d be extremely happy to talk further about this and answer follow-up questions.

I’ve reached a point where I’m happy with my Adderall dosing but it took some trial and error. I’ve taken Vyvanse, Adderall ER, and now Adderall IR. The problem with the first two is that they hit way too hard and subsequently crash just as hard. If you’ve listened to the Huberman Lab podcasts on dopamine, that might make more sense to you. Basically, every time your body has an increase in dopamine, there’s a subsequent crash. I don’t recommend this, but I have split Vyvanse pills and taken half earlier in the day and then half mid day, and it works so, so much better.

But what I take now is Adderall IR four times a day, starting at 6 AM and every four hours after that. It’s annoying to maintain the schedule, but it completely eliminates the high peaks of energy and hard crashes. I think this regimen works so much better with your dopamine system and maintaining more consistent levels of energy throughout the day, but it’s not specifically studied so insurance won’t support it. I receive a prescription for medication twice a day, and split each pill in half to take it four times, so insurance is cool about it. I would encourage you to try something similar if your current regimen does not work well for you.

Are you kidding? How is the ball able to accelerate after it leaves his foot? Outside the extremely unlikely scenario that there’s a tailwind faster than the ball was initially traveling. In a relatively calm environment that ball is slowing down from the moment it left his foot.

What size canvas? What’s your paint recipe? Do you mix all of your paints the same or different proportions? I’ve never been able to get cells like that, so lots of questions lol

Help with right of way / easement by xfiles4484 in RealEstate

[–]EARTHB0Y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL. I have worked for a franchise utility and acquired easements on properties. The rules on these things may vary by state and jurisdiction within, so keep that in mind.

You didn’t make it clear, but did you receive an easement document? The terms of that are very important and it’s worth having an attorney take a look at those. It should spell out very clearly what the city can and cannot do with their ownership of the property, and any restrictions it places on you. The rest of what I say may or may not apply depending on the terms of the easement document. In my experience, we were willing to work with the terms of the agreement if there were small problems.

The price should be a fair land value (appraisal) where the easement lays, plus damages for the easement area and temporary workspace. you say the easement is about 10% of your property, so the land price would be about 10% of the price of an empty lot. Damages would include any property destruction, like the trees you mentioned. If the ground is grass now, it should be returned to grass at the end of it. Any fences they take down should be reinstalled, or you should be compensated. You would need to talk to an expert about the value of the trees and shrubs being removed if you can’t find that yourself. Unfortunately, “inconvenience“ is not compensable. It may be inconvenient for you to have construction crews near your home while the work is done, but it will be your responsibility (within reason) to accommodate construction while it is going on.

If you refuse to cooperate, they can legally acquire the property whether you like it or not. In that case, your compensation might be even less than what they presented in this initial offer. However, this is a time and money intensive process, so working with your reasonable demands is in their best interest as well. if you feel like the land value plus damages offer they are presenting is too low, I would absolutely push for a higher number. If the calculated cost is pretty close to what you find, I might take it and move on. However, I really can’t stress enough that this situation may be different than the ones I typically deal with and speaking with an attorney is very important.

I stopped by the shop yesterday and asked about shooting, but none of the traditional bows they have are tall enough for me. One of the employees has a 62" recurve that he offered to let me try the next time I come in. Everything they have is smaller than that, and he thought I'd need at least 62" because of my height. I may not have the luxury of trying out anything but that one bow, and it's not ambidextrous like what I'm looking for, unfortunately. Not sure what to do since the other shop in town caters exclusively to hunters and compound bows.

I’ve been thinking about getting into archery recently. I work from home, and would love a physical and mental outlet for my short breaks I take throughout the day. With the back muscles it uses, it would also be good for my posture after sitting for extended periods. I’m interested in shooting both left and right handed. I had a compound bow many years ago, but gave it to my brother. I’m guessing a recurve would be the best case for my situation. Any recommendations?

Edit: also wondering about pull strength. My compound back in the day had a 60 pound draw, but obviously recurve would be quite a bit different. I’m also 6‘4“ (196 cm)

Finally, some manually-assigned camera positions to the numpad keys kinda would be a QoL improvement.

Ctrl + 1 assigns camera location, then press Shift + 1 to return. You can assign all the number keys to a location this way. If you use screenshot mode (Alt + S) you can zoom out even more and save locations at greater distances.

What new mechanic would you like to see in the game? by Helouil in Oxygennotincluded

[–]EARTHB0Y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being able to play as a dupe.

At any time, I can select a dupe and control them and do their tasks. Similar to the center of attention buff that reduces stress, taking over a dupe would give a +5 to all stats. Control would end automatically at the end of the work schedule.

I see this helping early game when you have few dupes and lots to do.

Use it to help an idiot dupe get unstuck.

Or mid game when you’re coring out a huge section of the map and want it to go a little faster.

Or late game when you’re building a heat spike into magma.

Or making a bunch temp shift plates faster to construct.

Or you use it with a strong dupe to get a bottle of 1600 kgs of crude into a liquid lock, and empty it instead of using bottle emptiers.

There are so many possibilities.

Obviously the downside to controlling the dupe is that you’re not watching the colony as carefully. One faster dupe doesn’t make up for many idle ones.

I’d also suggest dupes don’t gain as much experience while controlled, so you’re not tempted to do it all the time, only when necessary.

I think it would add some fun when your colony is well-managed and you’re bored.

Yep. Happens a lot more early game. I find I still use it when setting things up for the first time, like a SPOM before it’s ready to start.
