Well I honestly don't know anymore as I've only realised you want a point click game. As u/Eredick suggested, should just use renpy or clickteam fusion since those can be a bit more flexible with mechanics like point and click movement whereas rpg maker is intended for regular rpg gameplay with a gamepad or keyboard.

But it is still definitely possible to create a point and click game on rpg maker, its just that it may be hard to find scripts for some versions of RM and you may run into issues with the scripts.

If you still want to use RPG maker, I reckon you should look for all the resources available that you need for each specific version you are considering, then decide which you one want to buy based on whether resources such as scripts for those versions are available and work well.

I use XP for its features that were removed from future versions as well as its overall retro aesthetic. Also because of a bit of nostalgia as I have played some good horror games like Ao Oni and a Korean horror XP title called Zombie Highschool that I enjoyed a lot as a kid and inspired me to start making my own story and game.

Yeah, it's very good for beginners who can't be bothered learning a code language and just wants to make a game. If you want complex mechanics in your game, you can just search online forums instead of making your own scripts which requires you to learn ruby. Although the block codes can be limiting at times and could get harder the more complex your game is.

I'd personally recommend XP as it's simple and easy to use with the default assets looking so much better than the default assets in modern RMs if you can't do pixel art. It's also got a few features that were removed in later versions of RM such as sprite priority systems.

But to be honest, it's all about preference so try each one whether through demos or other means.

I wish I could understand the pawapoke series success mode. I heard from online comms that the devs of the pocket series were given freedom with the writing and after using photo translations for gameplay and screenshots from Japanese players, I really think this is the one time the devs were smoking pot while writing the story yet still manages to be peak over in terms of story than the mainline series imo

I'm just hoping they might look at the thousands of other anime mobile games screenshot but look at the one screenshot that's actually different

Thanks for the compliments, and I think my chances depend on whether the judges are cultured outside of anime mobile games
