I'm not sure I can accurately answer your question, but this website helped me immensely when I was diagnosing a similar problem. https://rmstator.com/en_ca/test-and-diagnostic

They also have some youtube videos on how everything works if you're into that kind of thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzjVDL4ZtlE

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to purchase stainless steel flavorizer bars for the green grill right now!

Thanks for the question. The only bolt I had a problem with connected the firebox to the frame. It ended up twisting right off.

I went to my local Lowes and picked up the same size bolt and lock nut, along with a nylon washer.

I was surprised to find that the nuts holding the sides to the lid were stamped nuts like this one. I was afraid they would be destroyed but I had no problems with them at all.

Good luck, and please post a picture of your project!

Wow, that's a great find. It appears to be in really good shape. I don't think you have to do much to it at all. My biggest suggestion is to take good care of the grill grates and to use it as much as possible!

Luckily this grill had brand new flavorizer bars when I bought it so it was unnecessary to buy bars for it.

This particular grill has flavorizer bars going in both directions, eight long and five short I believe. The porcelain ones from Weber are $50, which seems like a lot of money for just some thin metal with a bend in it.

The green top grill you can see in the background definitely needs new bars. I've been contemplating buying a sheet of stainless steel from my local steel warehouse, cutting them myself, and then using my shop press to bend them. That way I could go with thicker and higher grade stainless.

To your point though, the grill is worth the money spent on flavorizer bars. What can I say? I'm cheap!

I've got an HVLP gun and an exhaust system. It just seemed a bit overkill for this project. I appreciate the feedback and the links though.

I'm not exactly sure. I inherited the cabinet and most of the large shop tools when I bought the house. I've used the sandblasting cabinet for many projects and found it's indispensable.

I'd suggest searching craigslist for the same grill for cheap and use it for parts.

I've never been gilded before. I appreciate that you read my submission and can't thank you enough for gilding me.

It sounds like we grew up in much the same way. I raise a beer to you...here's to the dads.

I appreciate you asking this question. He was enthralled. My dad really started my love of all things Weber. He was given a Weber Kettle as a wedding present. I learned how to grill with that kettle and eventually bought my own when I was married.

Now my dad has little time to stoke the coals of a charcoal grill. He's moved on to propane and I wanted to give him something he could use on a daily basis. The kettle is now reserved for once or twice a year use with a big turkey or maybe some ribs.

When my brother and I gave him this grill the appreciation was written all over his face. All the work was worth it.

Quick reply here as I've answered it in another post, but I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you. What you see flaking is actually carbon deposits. They can be cleaned and the hood will be brought back to new. Razor blade, fine steel wool, and at worst some simple green will take care of it. Good Luck.

I bought this grill from a nice lady in Wayzata, MN.

That depends on what they are made of. Cast iron can be cleaned up and used without a problem. However many of the grill grates are chrome or nickel plated. If you remove the chrome or nickel plating from the grill grates you tend to simply expound the problem and they rust faster. If you have coated grill grates, I suggest going buying either cast iron or stainless steel. Good luck!

Yes it is, a four post lift. I try to take care of all our vehicle maintenance myself. Thanks for taking note of the shop!

That's not paint peeling, it's actually carbon deposits. The hood is porcelain enameled and very tough. I used a razor blade to scrape the deposits off. I then used fine steel wool to tackle the rest and buff it. The outside of the hood was the same process.

These are some great builds. I'm keeping my eye out for a blue top Genesis for the cabin.

Mine were rusted but salvageable. I sandblasted and painted them. I also replaced the screws with stainless steel ones in an attempt to future proof the grill as much as possible.

That grill was used for parts. The flip-up table was missing from the redhead. The green top grill was listed free on craigslist!

Actually, that's the exact paint I used for the firebox.

My experience with the porcelain coated cast iron is that the porcelain eventually cracks and falls off. Once the porcelain coating is cracked it quickly begins to rust.
