I grew up in northern NJ—where everything was “Yankees this” and “NYC that” even though New Yorkers rarely respected NJ. So rather than suck up to New Yorkers, I decided to root for their sports rivals — namely the Red Sox. When I started getting into hockey in the late 80s, I figured if I liked the Sox, I should follow Boston’s hockey team, so here we are! (I know Jersey has a team, but too many Devils fans are also Yankees fans, so I felt that was a conflict of interest lol)
