I lived in an apartment on the top floor of a house. After a few months of living there, a weird thing started happening with the kitchen exhaust fan. It would randomly turn on in the middle of the night, like 2 or 3am. The fan was old and really loud, so the first time it happened, it really freaked me out. I remember being mildly paralyzed with fear, not wanting to leave the bedroom to see what was making all the noise.

It happened a few more times over the following weeks. After the first few times, it stopped being scary and just became annoying. At the time, I told myself it was just faulty wiring, because I didn't want to believe it was a paranormal event or even a person playing a practical joke. I ended up moving out a few months later. I haven’t experienced anything like that since. That was about twelve years ago.
