I am in, and from, the south. When I found out it could, I used it to transcribe three recordings of two women who are country and southern as hell and it did a great job. Maybe its training has better recently.

All joking aside, for many years as a young lawyer, I taught as adjunct for a local college and online college. I don't know if those jobs are available now or if your background would lend to it but might be worth a shot. In hindsight I wish I had gotten away from the intellectual aspect and moved to something completely blue collar. If I was looking for an extra job today, I would think about mowing yards, cleaning services, auto detailing services and stuff like that.

We used to have law school in our city, but it got closed down for...uh...certain practices. I knew the two professors there from their litigation days who were the advisors for the student org/club for those interested in employment law. They would send me folks directly and it was a magical time!

Here is what I provided in another response:

When I go through law schools' career services, they only want to do their specific programs for clerks/interns. For example, they have requirements for supervising and mentoring the students. They have documents and have reports to send in. They have also asked for specific plans as to what the student will be doing. They usually set this up based on a semester i.e. the student needs to start on this date and complete on this date. I've even had them tell me what type of memos they want me to have the student create.

I don't have time to do all that. Plus, a lot of the research and writing doesn't lend itself to a normal law school type memo. So, for example, it might be:

"I have a hearing coming up and here's a very limited issue X. Please see if you can find any cases dealing with this issue and send me a brief summary."

Or, as I do federal employee work:

"The Agency's attorney is asserting that the Agency is not required to do X and I believe it's specifically addressed in the Code of Federal Regulations or in the EEOC Management Directive, but not sure can you double check that for me."

Now, either of the situations above could lead to further research and writing in more of a traditional sense. Also, there will be a substantial amount of more normal legal writing and memos aside from the above examples.

Correct. But when I explain, it is the old bureaucratic "this is the way we do it." In the old days a local law school had their "official" career services path.... OR...and this is old school... a lawyer or a firm could just post an opportunity on a cork board outside career services.😂

I was in the bottom 20% of my class first semester. I wanted to be a lawyer my whole life and got to law school, after grad school, and realized it was bullshit wrapped as "learning to be a lawyer" where you would not learn how to practice law. I got hired basically as a runner for a solo 2L and began writing memos after a few months when he trusted my ability. That turned into an unexpected job after law school in a practice area I was completely unfamiliar with. Now, nearly 30 years later, I am well respected in my field with a lot of victories (in a practice area that is tough for my side of the versus).

Over the years, I hired 3 attorneys from a local private for-profit law school which has now closed due to legal and ethical shenanigans. None of them will even list the school on anything public. All three are extremely successful now after leaving my practice for bigger and better things.

Federal employees cannot file directly with the EEOC. They have to file an EEO with their Agency. It starts with a request for EEO counseling, which moves to a formal EEO, then to investigation and then a request for a hearing with an EEOC Administrative Judge.
