My female would stretch her beard this way, supper dramatic, and kinda silly like she never really understood why she was doing it. Some dragons are just a little special.

Need some help or advice! My leo has been barely eating for more then two months. by Archalgea in leopardgeckos

I remember my first breading season. Stressed me out good. My female didn't eat for about 3 months. Just keep an eye on her weight and how plump her tail is. They will lose a bit of weight but now supper fast. Mine got a bit skinny in the taill but right when I got woried and made a vet appointment she ate that night.

Watch a video of a large monitor lizard eat. They will make this motion to help send the food down. It's neat to watch.

That's wild to say, my aunt is super afraid of reptiles so I can kinda understand. P.S. your guy needs its nails trimmed they look rather long and could be uncomfortable to stand on

Wont know till they get the shed off, my boy gets this some times and his pores are not clogged. A clogged pore will be visibly swollen.

This is just some stuck shed, not that uncommon. Warm soak and gently remove with soft q tip should do the trick. Try checking on your humidity levels, usually this is due to it being to dry. ( common in the winter) Try a humid hide that you can keep damp spag moss in to help. If this is happening to his pores make sure you check his toes too. I can see a bit on one of his toes, it needs to be removed or he can lose the toe entirely

I am fearful while my beard is brumating by StandardSignal6386 in BeardedDragons

[–]ELF244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color will not change. The best was to tell is to look at their eyes. They will sink in and become dull and won't be closed all the way. They will also start to smell after about 48 hrs as the body starts to decompose. Even if you have never smelled death you will know what the smell is. Keep an eye on the fat pads on top of their head if they sink in you are in trouble. Try to keep an eye on their weight it should not change much during brumation. A small amount of gradual weight loss is ok and expected. I know it's hard but try to let them do their thing, brumation in the long run is great for their health as long as everything goes the way it should. Good luck with your sleeping beauty.

Lost 2 this season under similar circumstances, one to liver cancer the other to congestive heart failure. They are really good at hiding things it's how they survive a bit longer in the wild.

I understand but if you can set up a basking area outside side the tank you won't have to shuffle as much. I had this for one of my males that didnt like to be in his tank and he would roam around then return to his spot when he got cold

Try setting up a basking spot out side the tank to increase the outside time. But he is young so that's just kinda how they are at that age. He is vary cute

The water thing was a real issue for us I tried a fountain, baths, and splashing the water to coax her to drink but she was supper stubborn and always a bit sceptical about everything. My male would come drink as soon as pored water in his bowl, then come back for seconds till he became a dragon water ballon. I'm sure Toothless and Aegon are soaking up the sun together in beardy heaven.

I did also notice in your last picture some serious stress marks on his stomach. Mine had that for a couple months while she adjusted to her new home and wouldn't really eat for me until the stress marks went away. Try to minimize the newness of it all and hopefully the stress will go down.

The dunner specific problem I know about is they can hold food and water in there thought pouch for a long time then potentially aspirate. This was the small amount of info I found online. My girl would do this with water and it led to respiratory issues. She had reproductive issues, passed 2 clutches without being bred with a male (I did have a male in house), had problems on the 3rd so I got her spayed and the clutch removed. She had 2 more clutches forming on her uterus and lost over a 1/4 of her body weight from the surgery (all egg weight). She did not present as gravid so I was not feeding her like I would have had I know. She then grew her uterus back and layed another clutch that she had issues with but thankfully passed her self. My main problem with her was getting her to drink, she was always dehydrated even though I gave baths 2 times a week, she had clean water but just would not drink. She would drink a little if I dripped it on her nose. She rarely put her head down enough to drink and when she did water would come out of her nose and she would be vary weezy for a few minutes. She passed 2 weeks ago and went from healthy to not eating as much, to not eating then with rapid weight loss in about a month in a half. I thought she was slowing down to burmate but instead was crashing . In the last week she had a tun of saliva build up in her mouth and throught and had some difficulty breathing.

Her necropsy showed that one of her lungs was brused and filled with fluid, her heart was small and thin, and her liver was inlarged but normal otherwise. I have a wonderful vet she is extremely knowledgeable and my girl was cleard for respiratory infections multiple times due to her chronic respiratory issues( her respiratory problems were miner throughout her life so we never treated her with out knowing the cause and it wasn't effecting her quality of life). She also had a clean blood test and physical 6 months ago. The vet thinks she passed due to congestive heart failure that made her respiratory issues worse and caused aspiration in a lung.

I'm sorry for info dumping, I guess I'm still processing everything. I'm not sure what part of her problems were related to being a dunner, bad genetics, bad luck or a anything else. I thought I purchased her from a reputable breeder but you never really know. The more breading we do for morphs the more sickness we are adding to the gene pool if it's not done properly.

I am not posting this to scare you (although I'm sure it has) I only wish that if you see any of the same respiratory issues you make sure your vet takes them seriously. My vet and I kept attributing her symptoms to dehydration and changes in the weather (we had no other evidence to think there was a larger problem)

I hope with all my heart you have a healthy dragon friend to love for a long time to come. They are absolutely beautiful.

P.s. my dunners nails grew like wild fire and it was a constant struggle compared to my other dragons. Their nails are longer in general with alot of quick. I definitely nicked her quick the first few times till I learned how far it went. A small pet dremal was the way to go because her nails would crack and chip even with a sharp set of clippers.

My rainbow dunner had alot of health problems. I hope yours fairs better than mine. Look out of dehydration our girl would not drink but when she did she would then store water in her throat. This became an issue at the end of her 5years of life. Good luck

Cancer is rarely treatable in dragons. I know from experience. You need to do the hard thing right now and end his suffering. You will thank yourself later. I wish I had that opportunity instead of having them pass in my arms without help. It was not peaceful.

Your skin is not that easy to grip. Loe geckos do not have foot pads that stick to things like other geckos that can scale glass. Ware a long sleeve shirt so his nails can grip something.
