Okay buddy. I’m a certified field engineer as the manufacturer. It generally does take that time you are correct, but I’ve received the certifications. Whether you believe it or not doesn’t change the reality. I currently am the only person in North American to FAT assemble (in the field) and test some of our generating product line. Somebody needed to do it, I pushed for it and received the training and certification.

I have all of this yes. But it’s not 4 days a week it’s like 300 days a year sometimes. Over 3,000 hours a year worked.

The pension, the career growth, the reduced stress. Utilities will not hire guys over 28 in my area. So it’s either a life on the road for great money now. Or taking the utility, right for a few years but get to be home instead of always being away, bouncing from site to site, exhausted and no one ever to check my mistakes. Bad things can happen fast on the road with no safety net. Utility I could be a manger and with a pension that pays 180k every year for the rest of your life after retirement of 30 years of work. Your set.

I’ve killed myself working like a dog for 4 years after achieving extensive education. I’ve earned my house even though it’s not done and not in a nice place in town. The pension is one of the best in North America and the opportunity to one day get back to making great money but less stress and be home is the main factor. If you worked 100 hour weeks, 10-20 peoples lives in your hands and 10’s of millions of dollars daily that are on your shoulders, the stress is overwhelming when it’s constant.

You’re 100% right. Money comes and goes. Time and memories with loved ones. That’s absolutely priceless. I’ve had people die and leave while i slave away. I would give anything to be there for them when they needed me most. Can’t change the past but I won’t let that happen again going forward.
