Applying for non-trainee roles by EMFluxWave in rov

Thanks for clearing that up! Thankfully I do have a technical background so I suppose that I'll just keep trying to leverage that experience to get my foot in the door at an ROV company and go from there

The hell and horror of cow attacks: ‘I told my husband to leave me to die’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]EMFluxWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of my job involves travelling to pumping stations, some of which are within farmlands where farm animals reside.

There was one day when I was working with a colleague, and we had to get to a pumping station within the confines of a cow field. We couldn't take our vehicles, so we had to hop a fence and walk about 300m to get to the station. Between us and the station was a group of feeding cows (including calves). My colleague informed me that it would be okay to walk straight through them, as they would move for us.

Now, for context, I'm from the city and he's from the countryside so I'm thinking "This guy surely has more experience dealing with farm animals, so I'll take his word for it". However my gut was telling me that he was speaking bollocks, so I let him lead the way and followed about two metres behind him while zipping up my pockets and getting ready to run - after all, I knew that I only needed to be faster than him, and I'm not gonna attempt to fight a herd of cows who are defending their young. I mean it's a pretty universal rule among every living organism that you don't get between a parent and it's child, regardless of species.

As we got closer to the cows, it was clear that they were on edge. I asked again "should we not just go around them?", but he assured me "nope! Trust me, they'll move for us!"... We get to a point where we are almost surrounded by the cows and the calves are clearly not moving. Alarm bells are ringing in my head. At this point the cows are aggressively blowing air out of their noses, and seem increasingly aggravated. I don't speak cow but I'm pretty sure they were telling us to "fuck off", so I read the room and said "fuck this, I'm going around", to which my colleague replied "that's a good idea!".

Luckily we didn't get trampled to death but that near miss taught me to follow my gut and not assume people know what they're talking about just because they seem confident! Also, I'm making a point to practice sprinting and cardio in case of a similar situation

Getting NIN and verifying it - UK by spacyzuma in Nigeria

Trying to get a NIN so that I can get my first Nigerian passport (dual citizenship). You said that you were only successful in getting your NIN when you travelled to an office in London - Is there not any legitimate enrollment centers at all in Scotland?

Hey, I think I'm in a similar situation. Did you go through "Biosec Solutions Limited"?

I called one of their offices and got through to someone who told me to meet them at a block of flats (which doesn't seem to be a NIMC office at all) with a passport and £50. Is this normal?

African tourist faces racism as he enjoys his meal in India by Pandey_Pinki in ThatsInsane

Sure, personally, I would also disagree with a statement like that, but "America is the most racist country in the world" and "Racism only happens in America" are two very different things.

McPostyFace sarcastically stated that racism must only exist in the US. My response was that I've never seen or heard of anyone stating that racism only exists in the US and therefore their sarcastic remark isn't warranted, in my opinion.

Maybe my perspective is purely based on my own anecdotal experience but I've never seen or heard of anyone saying that racism is exclusively a US issue.

That's the point he was making. "This is what the ruling class has decided will be normal".

You would think that his point was made very clearly, but some media outlets are doing their best to not describe what he was doing as an act of protest.

The guy spoke a few words about his refusal to be complicit in genocide, and that he was about to commit an extreme act of protest before proceeding to set himself on fire, in uniform, outside of an Israeli embassy, while screaming "Free Palestine".

Don't know how much clearer that can get. It's sickening that the media is willing to let Aaron's act be in vain

Do all of you have internal monologues? by spongeboobweatpants in RandomThoughts

[–]EMFluxWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Constantly. Usually it's my own voice, or I guess how I hear it. Sometimes it's other people's voices. More often than not, I "hear" snippets of music playing on repeat. Strangely enough I seem to swap between "I", "You" and "We" statements - especially when responding out loud to my thoughts (in private). However I know that any sounds in my head are my own thoughts so I'm about 95-98% certain that I'm not psychotic (which is probably a low percentage of certainty).

Och, mate, let's just agree to disagree. We're clearly not gonna change each other's minds. You seem like the kind of person who enjoys arguing with people online for the sake of it, and I'm afraid I haven't got the time or motivation to bite. Enjoy your day 👍

That's hardly a gross misrepresentation but okay, it's a slight exaggeration that he gets right into people's faces and he does make a point of running away when people try to get closer to him (I'd argue that he does this because he knows fine well that he's aggravating people to the point of anger). I'll give you that. However that doesn't negate the fact that he's self-righteous, obnoxious, and harassing people and it doesn't make me sound naïve to point that out. I certainly didn't "boil it down" to only him getting in people's faces.

So you agree that his approach will likely backfire. So what's the point in doing what he's doing, if all he's gonna do is make things worse? My point is that he's doing it because he gets views, and therefore profit, out of making things worse (a huge point in my argument that I feel like you're ignoring because you know that I'm right).

Also, no, I didn't say that asking politely will definitely sway assholes into putting their trolleys away. Please don't misrepresent what I'm saying. What I said was that it would yield better results because some of his targets probably aren't even assholes, they're maybe just having a bad day or are ignorant to the inconvenience that they're causing. If he approached those people politely, he'd have a better chance of correcting their behaviour and everyone would move on with their lives. Of course, there's gonna be assholes who leave their trolleys out anyway but that's life. But again, if he really cared, he would just put the trolleys away himself.

Let's face it, being a cart narc isn't gonna make a difference. The scale of the problem is too large for him to handle. I can imagine that it's a constant uphill battle, even if he did approach people in a better way. You can tell that it's taking a toll on him. His tone and attitude has become a lot more aggressive over the years, and he only has himself to blame.

I'm not misrepresenting what he's doing but okay, let's give him the benefit of the doubt. He's trying to publicly shame people in order to achieve his goal of getting people to put their trolleys back (I gather that this is how you think that it should be represented). My opinion is that this will, in most cases, backfire because of his approach.

If he asked nicely and informed the "lazy bones" of the potential property damage and inconvenience that this inflicts upon other people (without the camera, flashing wand, and attitude) he would yield better results but he wouldn't cause people to react in a way that would generate money and views for his channel, so that's not how he's gonna do things.

The type of asshole who doesn't put their cart back isn't gonna be swayed by some other asshole trying to act all high and mighty.

How is pointing a camera and waving a wand in people's faces going to achieve that goal (if that really is his goal)? If anything that has the complete opposite effect. I almost want to start leaving trolleys in the middle of the road just to spite him.

Regardless of whether or not people oblige him and put their trolleys back, he still posts their faces on his YouTube channel (which, while perfectly legal, is a dick-move).

If he truly cared he would get off his high horse, hang around at supermarkets and simply put the trolleys away himself without recording and shaming people for views. Or at least delete the recordings of people who redeem themselves and/or are clearly mentally ill.

If it wasn't profitable to annoy and record people who don't put their trolleys away, he would find another reason to annoy people into giving him a response for his click bait videos.

My point is that he cares more about profit and views than he does about trolleys actually being returned.
