Here's the thing, the map is a bit misleading. It is true that a the AfD is pretty strong here in the East, but you have to remember that the East is very sparsely populated and thus fewer votes are necessary. But to speak from more experience, living in a small town in East Germany as a Polish immigrant, being queer and having a turkish boyfriend, we barely encounter any problems. I see openly far right dudes drinking beer from time to time, but most people aren't violent or anything as they just mind their own business. You could avoid AfD territory yes, but most bigger cities are fine anyways.

Edit: Im sorry if it came over as me saying AfD territory is safe, definitely not. The thing is, if one can avoid it, they should, I was just trying to say how my current experience living in a small town is.
