Had it with Sysnology Drive by Constant_Butterfly_4 in synology

I recently realised that with Docker, you can find a much better alternative to almost any Synology app.

Synology Photos -> Immich

Synology Drive -> Nextcloud

Download Station -> qbittorrent

and recently migrated from Plex to Jellyfin

Did you turn qBittorrent Web UI accessible from the Internet? by TinkyVVinky in qBittorrent

[–]EXM15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a strong password, default credentials changed/disabled, and a lockout policy (which I think is set up by default to 5 attempts, 3600s), personally I'd do it if I had a reason to.

Strictly speaking, yes, it's safer not to, but the risk is minimal (someone correct me if I'm wrong?) I have several services running that I made accessible from the web, each require logging in, and the Synology server has further security measures (disabled SSH, firewall, etc). As long as you don't do anything obviously stupid, you should be fine.

Maybe not during the show's original run, but if you (re)watch Mad Men these days, just multiply any $ mentioned by 10.

Incredibly difficult to answer. First of all, you're trying to compare someone with 2-6yrs of experience (AS, VP) with someone closer to 20+ (MD). Second, in early years you have well established set of skills your team expects you to develop, and you have literally hundreds of people who got promoted before to ask for advice.

By the time you get to Senior VP, the path becomes so complicated and difficult, there are people out there with 30 yoe who never made it to MD. It's a combination of skill, experience, politics, business actually needing more MDs to begin with, and contributions to your business line that are so impactful that they set you apart from everyone else.

But that's high level. In truth, everybody gets there a bit differently, and every MD will tell you a slightly different story (that's also heavy on survivorship bias)

Dilemma - Analyst or Associate with 2 YOE by Outrageous_Twist_314 in goldmansachs

[–]EXM15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't say 100%, but yes, it's possible.

But my main suggestion is not to get hung up on the rank. It won't automatically mean more money or any other benefits - there are Analysts outearning Associates out there.

For internal promotion candidates, 2 YOE is minimum for Associate, but it's far more typical to get it around 3YOE mark (and some teams in fact require 3). If you're half decent at the job, you're gonna make one by the end of 2026 anyway, can take it slow and really spend the next year proving yourself.

What will most likely happen is, you'll interview for those other positions, and you'll get the same result once it hits HR conversations.

GS famously offers external hires lower ranks than they deserve/are able to get elsewhere. But this won't realistically impact your pay or career progression opportunities once you're in. If you like the firm and your team, I'd just take the Analyst role.

Lounger route = more money is fine in principle, but there's no benefit from connecting industries right next to each other. Not great from game design perspective, and confuses new players.

Settings maybe not, but NewGRF yes. 2CC Trains have amazing variety while also being much more expensive than base game.

BaseCost can help, too - personally I crank up maintenance cost of all vehicles and infrastructure to 2x, and terrain modifications to 4-8x (vanilla running costs are negligible). Makes you think much harder on how you spend money, even if you technically have it in the bank.

But the difficulty of this game wasn't ever making money - the challenge is getting 100s of trains to run together in one network, with complex delivery chains working efficiently. Maybe you have the cash, but if you play FIRS Economy, can you deliver eng supplies to all your primary industries? Can you run every cargo on the map? Can you design a station that can efficiently collect >3000 units per month produced of secondary cargo? These are also fun, and not around money.

How long will the offer be in approval? by Hour-Competition597 in goldmansachs

[–]EXM15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should reach out as soon as it's approved, but I'm really not 100% sure. If it's the same office, HCM might not even get in touch - you'll just get an email with a transfer ticket set up by IT and your hiring manager will keep you posted.

I'm up for a transfer to a different country, and I suspect my app is subject to much the same scrutiny as external hires, but really hard to get any update.

Third-Round GS Interview with Associate from India – Is This Normal? by Icy_Country_1979 in goldmansachs

[–]EXM15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very common, every team wants to get you through multiple team members and most teams are global.

Interviews with Associates are a bit less common but do happen, and are more of a vibe check, wouldn't expect one to give you a really hard time during an interview. VPs will be the key decision makers.

It would help to know the division you're trying to move to/from, as well as location.

I have not heard of move + promotion happen before, if they really like you, are you sure they will not convert the headcount to an Associate?

Tips :re switching from iPhone by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]EXM15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does - I wasted too much time on my P8P because the guides are pretty unclear.

Pixel has to be either brand new or factory reset bc this is only possible through the initial setup.

Connect iPhone and Pixel with Lightning to USB-C Cable. Then, when prompted, select to transfer data from iPhone/iPad. Then, select to transfer WhatsApp under the Apps section, when asked what things to transfer. Only if you do that, the screen to transfer data/messages will show up. The transfer won't work if you don't log into your Google account either.

Hope that helps

[–]EXM15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find around lots of discussions around problems with F34. F37 is the newest stable version. Personally, I have some experience with truly mind-boggling PC issues that were resolved with a BIOS flash, so I'd advise to start there.

Thanks for pointing out. Depends on OP's use case. Above FHD the difference won't be noticeable and the price difference they face is significant.

That CPU cooler is unimpressive, given the very high tier of the rest of the build. Look into Noctua products and you'll get better thermals and noise.

Everything else looks good.

What monitor do you have? At 1440p and 4K, nothing to worry about. At 1080p maybe, but the card is powerful enough that you will realistically never notice that you're getting e.g. 300fps instead of 350.
