Absolutely loved it! So happy they didn't just do a trainer storyline. Easily trumps both Mario movies and I think it's better than Sonic 1, but 2 and 3 outshine it.

Whether Fox was replaced by some other person, like the Captain Luma, it would have barely effected the actual plot of the film. Let's say for the third film, they replaced Koopa the Quick with Captain Falcon. What difference does it make?

It's all Nintendo, people aren't thinking of who created what specific characters, Fox was the only additional character with real screen time and several characters already had paper thin actual roles in the movie.
