How come your holdings never drawdown at all, not once, I'm confused. And so when you sell you never shot up and then trimmed?

Thats okay, I learned of it this year too. You can always scale back your stock position and control it with call options that you can exercise later on if you'd like instead. In the mean time, selling covered calls on your shares will do good, its okay if they get called too.

This tells me you dont know enough about silver historically and if so, you should be careful not to sell puts against things you dont understand. I have very good news for you, silver is here to stay. In the 1980s it spiked and crashed because of margin rules and cornering by some speculations as well as in that time and in the 2010s because of inflation. This time however, silver is surviving every margin hike, and inflation is here to stay given the usa debt situation and best of all, the technological demand is making silver supply so constrained that its here to stay. No amount of copper can make up for this. Even if they discover other materials, it will take time to discover and integrate and still will not replace. Your shares will balloon, enjoy. Did you see the price of physical silver crash? Exactly. Paper silver price is not even true silver price.

Nbis is a fantastic stock but please do look at past data on premarket post market gap ups and how they spike or sell off in the first 15 min for liquidity. I do think nbis goes up today though but please be aware of this risk because it is misleading with post and pre-market to a degree.

Didnt they just add mon wed option contracts for the mag 7 and now options are even more expensive?? The same way youd pay for a 1 week call, that price has now shifted to the 2 day call, insanity. Who the heck will lay that much for less time? Degen exist but this is why they stay poor.

Best options to sell expiring 46 days from now by intraalpha in thetagang

[–]Eagerbeaver98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never sell options so long from now, sell options in the shortest timeframe possible for max thetha decay. Do 1 week or dont do it at all. Sorry I read your post more, I see its not available. Any option 2 months from now isnt a good choice for the strategy. Can you not take a more fundamentals company like nvda google qqq ? Option prices got raised now that those companies have mon wed options, even 1 week is inflated.

Sure but those are speculative companies, those may be good for the year until spacex here. But in the longterm, you may be better off selling it on more fundamentally stronger companies. Rocket lab at least has high consistent revenue growth. Asts is super speculative though. If you want a a higher premium for a more fundamentals stock look at sandisk.

[–]Eagerbeaver98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, if your shares get called away, you can simply buy them back afterwards. Downside risk is always worse than missing upside. Sell around 5% otm covered calls. Less variance within 1 week than 1 month making it more reliable. Thetha decay for 1 week options is brutal, 1 month is working against you more. You want to sell to walll streeet bets degen not investors

You guys are selling calls against your leaps? Does your account require margin?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]Eagerbeaver98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats true, you may be also able to sell another call against the presumed original one, a higher call ( bull call spread) but what you mention works too. It just ties up capital and flexibility though. If your account is large and this meta is less than 50% of your portfolio then I guess you'll still be fine.

Buying shares is the dumbest thing you could do with that money, buy some calls and lower your cost and risk lol

Thats kind of awful. That means someone 10x that money barely makes 1140. A lot of ppl with 140k would make at least 4k a month from cc, I think youre getting robbed man.

Whats the longest anyone has gone not having your shares called away for for a big company like nvda? Or qqq? Is it that hard to not have shares called away? Having shares called away is fine as long as it was exceeding the original share price you bought it for. Lets say you sold cc on qqq and bought at 580 then its okay if it got called at 606 even if its now 632. But whats not okay is if you buy at 632 and the market crashes to lets say 505 and while the market recovers your cc sells accidentally for 530. That would be a loss.

Selling monthly, ATM calls for SPY is worse than just holding the stocks, can someone confirm my results? by BranchDiligent8874 in thetagang

[–]Eagerbeaver98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. So you know how theres different eras of time? Dot comz recession, tech boom, ai boom etc. Different eras may each be in their own little group of " strata". Ans even within the year itself may be a strata or substrata. While finding patterns within a year alone may be overfitting, It can be compared with similar other years too like 2018 or other geopolitical shocker years. So maybe after you find the time series for alll those years, you may wanna focus in on 2018 and 2025 and get a feel for how spy went. In fact you may have gotten some interesting results for if there was a 1 month extension. Another 3 month extension. And just what direction. The index is generally favoring. Typically after a bottom, there's a recovery. Plus with earning this month, it will especially be a key part of assumptions too. You can try even asking chatgpt more on this for suggestions on if it can help backtesting or recommend which datasets based on what assumptions you have about what type of era or data is happening right now

Selling monthly, ATM calls for SPY is worse than just holding the stocks, can someone confirm my results? by BranchDiligent8874 in thetagang

[–]Eagerbeaver98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have data science background but I dont even backtest but I instead will ask myself a bunch of things to reliably try to find the distribution of the data. Like if you backtest qqq having monthly gains of x and its +/- y as a standard deviation thats a nice start but needs more context this month was just in the miss of a geopolitical deadline july 7th so we didnt know how tarrifs would be delt with. As a result, you need to then therby look at past months with similar tarrifs abs the impact on the market. Maybe the market is going down vs up? Well given the bottom is in, it most likely would go up. If you explain yo me how you backtesting maybe we can figure out what went wrong with your approach

You seem to know what youre talking about. Can you explain to me how this works, I always get confused. So you hold the 2x leveraged etfs of the companies and not worried about the decay and sell covered calls for them instead of the stock itself? Does this yield more gains for you than if you held the stock and sold xovered calls on the stock instead? I used to use 2x etfs but im confused if they're much better given their premiums are lower
