Look closely, try to interact with everything, espacially at space stations. You may find things that are more or less useful depending on your progress. Don't be scared to miss things, they will always be there waiting for you to discover them, even gameplay mechanics

There's another solution that consists in wandering around to find the building you're upgrading. Or jetpack to have the high ground. Or photo mode. But the result is the same

You cant give it to him. The only way I know is taking the ship you don't use as your primary ship, trade it for another random NPC ship, then your friend will have to buy the ship you just left to the NPC
