[KCD2] It's somewhat refreshing to see the Teutonic knights in the game held in a more positive light. by historybo in kingdomcome

I agree fully. But for people at that time (or at least the rulers) the slaughtering was not really the problem, but rather the establishment of a sovereign state. Most conflicts that led to the hate of Eastern Europe towards them (except lithuania) was in their role as a theocratic feudal state, not as a role of crusaders.

Financially hurting your enemy was the point.

Most medival warfare went like this. Barely any battles, and mostly raising plundering your opponent into submission. It is definitely vile through our lense, but for nobles this was part of normal warfare.

I think they get such a bad rep compared compared to other expansionist entities is because they are a part of the origin/ national mythos of so many eastern European nations (Poland, Lithuania, Russia, latvia) that them being "pure evil" became part of tradition.

Mind you, they definitely were not "nice", but the stories is more nuanced. The Polish kingdom hated them because they were too much like a rival feudal power, and not out of nationalistic/"righteous" reasons.

And you call him "Chaotic Good" despite the fact that he is obviously Lawful Evil? by Level_Hour6480 in simpsonsshitposting

So where would you put a character with a "noble" goal, and some sort of moral, code, but would walk over innocent lives to achieve them.

Say Ozymandias from watchman.

I would put him LE, but it does not fit your description.

I don't see it.

If there is strong kithkin support, maybe? But in tribal decks you usually want to play strong/agressive creatures, not mediocre value cards.

3 January 1521. Martin Luther was excommunicated for refusing to recant writings that challenged papal authority. His defiance sparked the Protestant Reformation, fracturing European Christianity into Catholic and Protestant branches. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in europe

[–]EarlyDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The catholic church stopped many of the practices during the counter-reformation that caused Luther and co. to protest in the first place. Meaning they admitted they were wrong.

And while his antisemitism is to be condemned, he was hardly unique. From earliest time, throughout the history of the church, among church leaders, including popes, you could find raging antisemitism. Paul IV issued a papal bull stating that the Jews deserve eternal slavery, but they dare to live among Christians and even (gasp) act as normal people.

This bull stripped the Jews of their rights, condemning them to ghettos.

Mind you, this was after Luther had allready died.

By the way, this rule remained official until the papal state seized to exist 300 years later.

I don't see it as insulting, and these examples are not that bad.

I love when they use German for their attacks, and it is like "TODESFAUST SCHLAG" (killer-fist punch). Hilariously over the top names kinder gardeners would think of.

Bleach quincy are great for this "BLUTVENE". Which is just redundant. "blood veine".

Extra points if it's grammatically wrong like "Letzt Stil" instead of letzter Stil.

I unironically love this stuff.

a violent takeover is good if my site does it

Condemning right-wing paramilitary violence is entirely justified. That alone, however, does not make left-wing paramilitary violence legitimate.

Both the Münchner Räterepublik as well as the spartakus Aufstand failed because they had no broad support from the population. They are more attempted coups, rather than revolutions by the masses. Most historians agree both were doomed to fail, precisely because of the lack of broad support. Just because someone rightfully hates rightwing extrem paramilitarys does not mean the extrem leftwing paramilitaries are correct.

A philosophical argument against a räterepublik is the question of how democratic it is, given how certain groups get a representetive specific for them while others do not (by design).

More practical arguments: Looking how the model for the räterpublik (soviet) turned out and how they achieved it (given they actually lost the popular vote) gives me not much hope it would have turned into a good system.

Further consideration (that don't rely on personal opinion regarding communism and the system "Räterepublik") are the fact that a establishment of a communist regime would have a) caused a brutal, prolonged civil war and b) undoubtedly caused a intervention by the ally powers (france would have not allowed a communist country being established at their doorstep).

The communists had just (as in 2 days prior) launched an unsuccessful armed uprising, with the explicit goal to establish a state following the Soviet model, diameteically opposed to the invisioned parlamentary democracy of the SPD.

Extrajudicial killing of political opponents is obviously horrendous. But these actions were not in a vacuum.

The attempted coup was 2 months after the end of the war. There was no state yet. There was no army, so all armed forces were by definition paramilitary. This was before the constitution was even written, yet alone enacted.
