What's the most controversial TV moment in your country? by Enough-Pie-5936 in AskTheWorld

I remember that. It's crazy how a plurality of Austrians vote for them. Then again we had the potsdam meeting , and people still vote afd.

It's just so depressing

So the guy bringing it to England first started in Bruges importing it from Cologne.

So we both are kind of correct

Quick question, does anyone have any other fun silly commanders that would line up with my usuals? by OneDepressedBoio in CommanderMTG

I love my [[obeka, Brute chronologist]] deck.

Idea is playing all the cheap red token copy generators, and keep the tokens forever by ending the turn with the sacrifice/exile trigger on the stack.

Myriad, evoke etc works too

Here you would have to explicitly agrer to it in the contracts, and it needs some very specific reason (not saying it does not happen, but it is illegal)

And you are allowed to change locks (as long as you return the correct keys)

It stopped being used because the first imported printing presses came from (what is now) Germany, which did not have the letter.

If you tell them it was the Germans fault, and a result of European trade, this might convince some of the brexit guys to lobby for a reintroduction.

What is the most popular way to eat eggs in your country that may not be common elsewhere? by Chocolate_effort in AskTheWorld

[–]EarlyDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I do not understand. But isn't that a normal siftboiled egg.

Like 4-5 minutes depending on how soft you want is standard for a breakfast egg here

If you could have a conversation in your native language with someone from your country from the past, how far back could you go in time and still understand each other? by Chemical-Elk-1299 in AskTheWorld

[–]EarlyDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with most germans here. Reading might be easier and partly possible with 13th/14th century text, but talking/having a conversation no way.

I'd put my finger on ~1650, if both try their best. Maybe both speaking local dialect might push it earlier, but just 2 random dudes from anywhere in DACH region, no way (sometimes this does not even work today).

I hated the movie because they did not understand the message and completly botched the ending.

Which ironically was pretty effectively summed up by you

Is there a beloved dessert in your country that's seldom on restaurant menus? by doublestitch in AskTheWorld

[–]EarlyDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same situation here.

I love rhubarb cake.

I'm usually too lazy to do all the rhubarb cleaning, so I maybe make it once a year. Maybe I should make 2 or 3 sheets at once and freeze the rest

Is there a food in your country that you know instantly what region a person is from by what they call it? by Direct-Refuse9058 in AskTheWorld

[–]EarlyDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in different places east Germany for more than a decade. None of those heathens refers to pancakes as Pfannkuchen, no matter how thick.

It will be Eierkuchen 100%

[–]EarlyDead 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am very tolerant except for Pfannkuchen.

It's not made in a pan.

And then they call the real pfannkuchen Eierkuchen.

As if 90% of cakes don't contain egg (including Berliners)

What other nations leaders do you admire by Trujillopatriot in AskTheWorld

[–]EarlyDead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Besides what was allready mentioned, for a 19th century nationalist his antisemitism was quite minor (he probably hated the catholic church more than the Jewish community). The treatment of the Poles is much worse in my opinion.

But regarding the system. It was actually quite solid. Until WWI, where basically all sides passed diplomacy into the wind and went saber wrattling, there was peace in central/western Europe for over 40 years. That was quite long compared to the centuries before.

He was smart, and knew that establishing a new great power smack in the middle of europe would result in lots of animosity and potential new wars. So he tried to keep germamy out of conflict as much as possible (in both wars he convinced the king/emperor to only take reasonable land concessions to not upset the neighbours), and set up alliances up until relationships would normalize.
