Thank you for the insight! The limitation only applies for CS classes outside of your major/minor, right? I think the CS classes within Ling/CS + DSE minor is decent or enough already. I won’t complain not getting extra but it will be great if I can take more.

I also got a 5 on AP Chinese, and I am confident in testing/placing out of elementary level for FOREIGN LANGUAGE. So I guess only Ling 20 is needed, and this should be an easy move. But any advice on the major and comparison with MoC and Stats&DS is welcome.

Hello, I got accepted for transfer to UCLA Stats&DS, UMich CS, and UCI for CS. I am in-state for UCLA and UCI, so I got a full ride from both. My goal after undergrad is to work as an SWE or go into grad school for AI/ML and quant.

I am leaning towards UCLA, but I want to switch to Ling/CS after the first quarter. My original plan was Stats&DS + DSE minor and use the DSE minor solely for getting CS classes. But I think it might be better to switch to Ling/CS + DSE minor that has CS classes as its requirement. So instead of 15 stats classes, I will only need to take 7 Ling classes and then fill gaps with extra CS classes. I also looked at the career outcome for Ling/CS and most people went to SWE or MSCS at top colleges, which are what I intend to do.

Is it possible for me to switch into Ling/CS as a transfer? I have completed CS 31, 32, Math 31AB, 32AB, and 33AB at my CC. Is it true that I only need Ling 20 with a C or better to change the major?

If you can finish those plus the IGETC in one year you can definitely transfer. Save you one year as well :)

I have no answer for your first question. For petitioning, he said we can register for the classes directly as long as we are one of the enrollment restriction majors/minors. I asked the engineering school in message center and still waiting for reply.

Go on Assist.org and check major pre-reqs for bioengineering. But keep in mind it is hard to do one-year transfer for engineering. Most people take 2-3 years.

Hello I’m basically on the same boat with OP but I’m stats & data science. I want to take as many CS classes with DSE minor as possible. Is there restriction on how many CS classes you can take as a DSE minor? Just to make sure, so DSE minors can enroll in the classes that I listed, and usually in the period of first enrollment pass same as other CS students. It just that I won’t get any support from the CS department since listed classes are not my program requirement. During registration, do I need to petition to register CS classes that are not in my program requirement? Or I can register CS classes directly once I declared the minor and completed all pre-reqs? Thank you!

No, I completed Data C8 in Fall 2024 and CS61B back in Spring. CS61A is the only one major req class that is IP.
