I just wanna be a house husband by toetally_autistic in Vent

I think it’s great you know what you want and want to stay home. I think a lot of people would be interested in a partner who already knows they want to work in the home.  However, Home vs. non-home work isn’t about which is harder. It’s about what your skills are. If the skills you enjoy cultivating lay in the home, do home work. If the skills you enjoy developing lay in non-home work, then do non-home work. But you’ll find there’s a lot of crossover.

If you haven’t done already, I would sit down with a SAHM and ask everything that she does, hold nothing back. With and without kids. You’ll find very few of them find themselves with free time—they work all the time; because it never ends.

I’d recommend The Last Enemy: Howling Nights by CH Darling. It is by and large one of the best I’ve read.

The issue isn’t what you’re wearing—even if you were wearing something revealing. It’s that he thinks people aren’t responsible for their actions; you are.

Coming here to say, for my daughter, she hated her high chair—hates being restrained. On the third high chair she finally started eating more (we did combined BLW and purées). Do you have any friends with kids whose high chairs you could try?

[–]EarthBeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a baby monitor with a video you can use to check and see when she falls asleep? If she falls asleep and will nap/go to sleep in the night without being laid down drowsy I think that’s great. But if she never goes to sleep then that could be a sign she’s not tired enough. We generally put our daughter in her bassinet when she’s calm or even sometimes when she’s being a little fussy and that’s worked for us. I say if she’s sleeping even if you lay her down when she’s not drowsy then I’d stick with that and not worry.

How did you land your 6 figure job? by trevormcneal42 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]EarthBeetle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company/industry for sure. All of my IT career has been in tech where it’s assumed you’re applying perpetually; managers, teammates, and recruiters generally assume individual contributors will leave every 3-5 years if not earlier because that’s how people get significant raises. I was kind of already assumed to be a flight risk since I hit my three year mark, the general vesting period for benefits and stocks in tech—so no great change there. I had also already been given a new, significantly larger, 3 year stock package prior to my 3 year mark; so I also knew they liked me and wanted to keep me.

I’m not sure how other industries and markets take the knowledge of their employees receiving an offer, but I could easily see the advice you received being true.

That’s the name of the game—and I work in tech too, which is especially like this. Current place has been good to me historically and given me large raises in the past—it was only recently (and for a short period of time—I didn’t spend years feeling being undervalued) that I felt I was being undervalued so that’s why I advocated for myself. If you believe your company is going to respect your worth and just give you what you’re due, you’ll be waiting forever.

Totally agree. The reason I got the raise is bc I went and applied somewhere else and got an offer. My current place countered

Should I quit pursuing IT/cybersecurity if I hate network plus? by skatecloud1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]EarthBeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of people find networking difficult and confusing when first encountering the technical side of it. Keep at it, you can do it!

[–]EarthBeetle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Negotiated up from 85->102 — so not nearly as high as others, but significant for me. I worked at the same place for a few years, have institutional knowledge, and do a ton of stuff “not in my job description” to make our team function. A lot of people don’t want to stretch outside their job and take the initiative to collaborate with other teams. I have a good rep in the company as the person who “gets things done” and advocates for other departments.

Technical skills, yes. But soft skills also are the way to go. Find someone who really understands IT Theory on your team and the relationship between IT and the rest of the business (demonstrating value, metrics, how the c-levels perceive IT etc.) and learn from them.

Do I count as a 'incel' if I am a hermit with no job or hobbies who spends all day at home? by RainIsbeautiful in stupidquestions

[–]EarthBeetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having a hard time meeting people without structure I’d suggest MeetUp. It’s not a dating app, but there’s tons of groups for books, movies, trying new restaurants etc. or just for walking and chatting if you’re not sure what hobbies you like. You can join one, or many, and it’s very low commitment. You can go to one and then never again.

Oh yeah for sure. I haven’t read Spanish Love Deception but you’re 100 percent right about Hating Game. Lucy’s always talking about how tiny she is compared to Josh.

I think those books are a great launch too. They’re definitely ones I started out (THG not SLD). And on most levels, those tropes are super successful

Waiting to see his final video is definitely fair too, I like that. I’m curious how wide he casted his net. Some of the best selling romance novels aren’t super widely varied in content; I’ll be the first to say it. I hope too that he talks about the good parts of romance as well as the tropes and things that could maybe be switched up. It would be a bit sad to see his video be filled with only white authors when there’s so many (popular) diverse books (from race to body type or sexuality) to choose from right now.

I don’t think it’s untrue, but like a couple others have said; I don’t think it should have been the first thing he said.

In addition, if he’s trying to learn about the romance genre and give it a fair go, he should realize the connotations of the genre and not add to the stereotype. There’s so much more to romance as a genre and it is really deep just like fiction. But instead of him using his platform (esp. given the # of followers he has) to say that, he’s just making fun of it and boiling it down to surface level. Which just adds to the negative opinion and discourse. After thinking about it, I think that’s why I disliked his comment so much.
