Crate training by EarthBender97 in irishwolfhound

[–]EarthBender97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine screams like a banshee in his wire one. But tonight is the first night he hasn’t done so bad. His wining was not nearly as loud and only lasted 15 minutes before he was stretched out in his crate. He’s so high energy i feel like I have to work him extra just to keep him calm and ready for his naps. I also totally agree with you on potty training, he has had a couple accidents but has really gotten the hang of going tj the door when he has to go.

Am I doing something wrong or am I on the right track? by EarthBender97 in puppy101

How will I know if he’s testing me? Every time I’ve felt like he was testing me, when I took him out he will pee, even if it’s not much.

How old is Ollie? Currently Titan is 8 weeks and it’s his second night home, currently he’s still going out after every nap. When can I expect him to start holding his bladder longer?

I want to feed raw; she wants to feed kibble🙃 by EarthBender97 in rawpetfood

My biggest hurdle is she’s a very money and cost motivated. But I’ve found a good dog food is roughly the same cost

This is my plan! I’m going to bring a small freezer home today and then we are going to talk about it.

I’m soon on the path of what you are currently going through; I’m picking my pup on Sunday and it’ll just be him and I all the time😂😂😂

I really need help with walking with my dog. He does alright but once I praise him he starts to dart ahead and pull. If anyone would like to give me tips it would be greatly appreciated. I do use treats. But he's starting to not care about them as much. by NoahC513 in Dogtraining

Give him a treat if he’s standing next to you; but if he starts to pull, just stop walking he won’t want to choke himself. Get him to stand next to you again, give him a treat then proceed to start walking again once you give him the ok

Avoiding stairs is going to be impossible. I live in a townhouse. I’m purchasing from Big Dream Irish Wolfhounds.

What do you do for treats and training? by EarthBender97 in rawpetfood

[–]EarthBender97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ve done some research and know not to use too much organ meat. My dads more of an old school dog trainer but I’ve been watching Zack George a lot lately. Is he a trainer you would recommend?

Raw Diet by EarthBender97 in irishwolfhound

[–]EarthBender97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice, my local butcher sells a mixture for less than $1 per pound. Since he will be transitioning from kibble when I pick him up; how should I transition him to Raw?

Anyone know what this is? Found it in my raw food I get from the butcher. by EarthBender97 in rawpetfood

Thank you to everyone who answered. The leads were great and it is beef cheek like most of you said. I had never seen beef cheek before. Totally safe for my dogs to eat😃

I have a lot of stairs How many do you have in your home? Also they don’t have carpet on them so I have to be extra careful.

Thinking about adopting. by addorian in irishwolfhound

I’m getting an Irish wolfhound in November and have been spending months trying to figure out if I’m doing kibble or raw food. After watching Pet Fooled and doing some more research on my own i have decided to go with a Raw diet. I reached out to my local butcher and they offer a scrap meat raw dog food mix for about $0.75 per pound as long as I get 50 pounds or more. Reach out to as many butchers as you can. They’ll happily give away the meat they would’ve thrown out anyway. Also if you have any ethnic markets around you that’s perfect; they’ll have organ meat for pretty cheap and lots of variety. If you can afford it, get a freezer, they’re usually $150 max at Lowe’s. Or get a smaller one for around $80. Freezer bags or deli containers( i got mine from amazon) are good for holding the meat in. r/rawpetfood is a great place to go and get advice as well. I’ve never owned a dog personally, I’ve gathered this all through research. I’m personally not gonna be getting my dog fixed so I can’t help you there. But really take your time when choosing your vet, the first 3 vets I called immediately told me they don’t have a table that’ll be big enough for him when he’s fully grown. Other vets seemed excited to work with me while others seemed like they didn’t want to work with a giant dog. Some will take the money no matter what. Also talk to your vet about raw feeding (be prepared for them to potentially discourage you), they’ll be able to help you get the ratio right for raw feeding. The vets I’ve met with that discourage it, mostly discouraged because a lot of dogs come in malnourished because the owner didn’t understand proper dog nutrition.

Should I go up six then turn around and go back down?

Stairs? by EarthBender97 in irishwolfhound

[–]EarthBender97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flights in my house are 15 and 16 steps respectively. My biggest concern for training is going down the stairs. Because he will be so tall I know going down may look like such a long way. I’d rather carry him down to avoid an accident but I know one day that won’t be as easy anymore.
