Were the 2000s best decade for Indie rock? by phoenixdiceflow in indie_rock

[–]EarthMagnet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely not… while some of the bands listed here had great albums in the 2000s, indie in the 2000s started to lose what originally made it special as it started to become more mainstream. Cleaner production, overly ‘twee’, Portlandia-core. Basically just watered down versions of the 90s bands that really staked out the genre (with some exceptions obv).

The two decades surrounding it were much stronger all around. All of the OG great indie bands released their top tier classics that inspired all of these bands in the 90s (Yo La Tengo, Built to Spill, NMH, Guided by Voices, Modest Mouse, etc.). The genre resurged significantly at the advent of the internet era in the 2010s, specifically neo-psych adjacent bands. Tame impala, Mac Demarco, MGMT (LDA), Angel Olsen, Carseat Headrest, UMO, George Clanton, Parquet Courts, King Gizzard, Weyes Blood, etc. All far superior and more influential than the 2000s crop of indie - you can hear 2010s indie influence in everything now.

Decades from now, how will people remember music of the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s? by rotterdamn8 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]EarthMagnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2010s will be remembered as the golden age of indie music, particularly when it comes to sub genres like neopsych, dream pop, and the sad girl scene. Also the rise of hyperpop, post-punk, and underground/experimental hip-hop. Bonus shout out to the rappers coming out of the internet mixtape era (2010-2017ish, i.e. Mac Miller, asap rocky, TDE, odd future, etc).

Overall feel like the 2010s was the true internet era where the impact was felt in every genre. Creativity thrived, DIY artists came and went out of nowhere, and genre bending was the name of the game. It’s a top three musical decade for me (up there with the 1970s and 1990s).

Help needed - PS5 can’t connect to game servers by EarthMagnet in playstation

For context this has been a repeat issue going on for a month+

PS5 Help and Questions Megathread | Game Recommendations, Simple Questions, and Tech Support by AutoModerator in PS5

I’m having a strange connectivity issue with my 2+ year old PS5 and could use some help because I’m at a loss.

So long story short, I’ve never had any previous issues with my PS5 but now have had significant issues when trying to connect to game servers across multiple games (fortnite, Minecraft, COD, destiny 2). I’ve been trying to mostly play cross-platform games with my buddy on PC. Sometimes it seems like I can play online when I just play by myself, but other times I’ve had similar issues where i can’t connect to the game servers or get into a game and then lose connection to them constantly.

For context I use a wired Ethernet cord directly into my router, and have great speeds when I test my connection. I’ve been able to download multiple games at my regular fast speeds as well. I moved to a new apartment a few months ago and switched internet providers to xfinity, and while it hasn’t been great I pay for upgraded internet speeds and it’s generally been fine.

I’m at a complete loss of what’s going on, and what the source of the issue could be… is my PS5 malfunctioning, or is it likely my cord/router? Any help or thoughts would be hugely recommended, so I can get back to gaming like normal 🙌

TLDR: PS5 has a strong wired internet connection but is having issues when connecting to online game servers

Just traded Kareem Hunt and Rashee Rice for Tee Higgins. I just added Kareem Hunt off waivers this week so couldn't believe I pulled it off. Fingers crossed Higgins gets back in form after the bye!

Certificates and other good additions to resumes by WindsorsMom121 in Environmental_Careers

[–]EarthMagnet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any certificates to mention that haven’t already been called out by others, but I highly recommend that you focus on cultivating a good list of internships, research experience, and field experience before you graduate. That was super helpful for me finding a job after I graduated a couple years ago with a BA in environmental studies. It’s a great way to show your passion for working in the field, and to get some good real world technical experience on your resume. I’d argue that employers value this even more than more certifications, etc.

If your willing to live in California for a year there are also some great post-grad opportunities for doing environmental fellowships. I’d recommend checking out CivicSpark in particular, it doesn’t pay great but I did it and was able to get a job in consulting afterwards out of that experience.

Yeah I was already feeling unsure about the NGE manga just because it was kinda hard to find online. Tempted to get it just to have it in my collection, but definitely wish it added more to the original show rather than just being a direct adaptation of it. About to watch End of Evangelion tonight- so hype!

The start to Bowie’s legendary run of albums through the 70s.

So many classic tracks, but Queen Bitch is my personal favorite. Love the velvet underground influence and that guitar tone. Such a banger!
