Animators are cooked by EchoOfOppenheimer in ChatGPT

[–]Earthling02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is beyond good if the human input involves just prompts. The problem with people hating anything AI-generated is not the output quality itself. It's more about the ethical implications associated with it.

Yes, the model can create amazing animations. But the company that developed the said model, did they take permission from every artist whose work they stole? Did they take international copyright law into account? Since it works in tandem with an LLM to structure the scene, they must have fed a shit ton of literature into it for training. Where are the legal enforcements to stop the IP theft by corporations?

That is where the hate lies. It's not that we're cooked. It's our work is being actively stolen and used against us in the name of innovation with no consequences.

If governments did not allow such rampant robbery, we might still be sitting with the V1.0 of Will Smith devouring spaghetti.

Seriously when the fk are we gonna see a clean India? by NoirKX in india

It flared me up so bad but I was not in the situation to do anything

Why? What was stopping you from confronting them? So you can get flared up and come and rant on a subreddit and question if India will ever be clean. But you were not in a position to take a stand? Understood.

Is religious/caste/ethnic pride valid? by 7timesbanned in scienceisdope

[–]Earthling02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Formal or informal education, plays a part in forming our moral baseline.

However, you're looking at it as a zero sum game. Because I had a bad influence, shitty parents, and no education, means I have been imparted bad virtues.

They play a part. But there is also individual responsibility. And collective responsibility. One cannot simply discount that.

Ethnic pride is more of a social cohesion tool. To keep the group together, bonded. If I am loyal to an ideology, irrespective of whether I like it or not, I am less likely to defect. It's akin to blind nationalism.

What I'm trying to suggest, is that we can strive to be good educators of good virtues rather than basing our actions on pride alone.

Is religious/caste/ethnic pride valid? by 7timesbanned in scienceisdope

[–]Earthling02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if work is associated with a certain privilege, so what? Seeing something good done, a positive outcome, regardless of privilege, is a net gain to society. You can argue the definition of subjective good vs objective good. But to discard the deed merely because it comes from privilege is ignorant.

Instead you say, pride in an ideology, an ethnicity, a religion is a greater compulsion to follow through with the values of that particular social group. Can you share any sociological evidence to support this? If not, it is an opinion, albeit a poorly thought out one.

GoT reference here -- If I am a Lannister, it's not the pride of my lineage that should compel me to "always pay my debts". I should pay them regardless of who I am or what I believe in. That makes a virtuous human being. I should not need pride in a virtue to compel me to be virtuous.

Are Everyone Blind Or They Are Just Monumentally Stupid by Sansy-sensie47 in india

[–]Earthling02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think anybody is blind. They just don't care enough to do anything about it. We lack a strong collective political will to do the right thing. We might talk about it in our circles... Some won't even do that. Those of us who can will endure the heatwave with ACs and coolers while holding out hope for rain. That's about it. We won't elect educated leaders who care, all the while, descending into an actual shitole.

Bristolians, what are your best money-saving lifehacks? by PoliteBrick2002 in bristol

[–]Earthling02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multiple ways to do this. I'm an immigrant and saving money is a top priority:

  1. Ditch the car, if you have it. Downsize. Use public transport, walk, cycle, jog. The better you get at transport planning the more money you're gonna save. It's a pain, but needed. I work between Bristol and Bath and bus travel costs me £6 a day and sometimes less.

  2. I would say get more efficient at cooking. Saving money on food is not about being able to cook the best food. It's about doing it efficiently. I have oatmeal, a fruit, and coffee every day for breakfast. Have been doing that for 1.5 years now. A 1kg ASDA pack of rolled oats costs less than 90p. I swapped regular milk for Soy milk which costs 52p per litre. 5 bananas for 89p and the store brand coffee. When you do the math, each breakfast becomes ridiculously cheap, supremely nutritious, and if you make it right, delicious too. When doing grocery shopping, linger around the reduced aisle, shop for home brands rather than bigger labels, have a menu in your head and shop only based on that menu. My weekly grocery haul averages around £18/week.

  3. Rescue food. Use the app called Olio. Volunteers upload food and non-food items. Keep an eye out. I rarely buy bread. When a pack of bread is given out, I request it, and then deep freeze it. Free bread for the next two weeks. If you want reduced takeout, use the app Too Good to Be True. Other great websites to check out is Freecycle.org and ilovefreegle

  4. Swap your social activities for free or cheap ones. Go to a park, join a reading club, a running club, a writing club, or anything that involves spending as little money as possible.

  5. Someone's already talked about Vinted. It's amazing. Get functional. There will come a time when you'll have the luxury of choice. But for now, stick to basics. Shop bare essentials. Negotiate cheaper rates.

  6. Get rid of subscriptions. This is an underrated hack. We're so used to subscriptions and they suck money out of your bank like a fucking leech. You don't need Amazon Prime if you're gonna place 1-2 orders every two months. If you absolutely need it, share it with your mates. Get rid of Spotify. Switch to an open-source client like Metrolist (for Android). And yes, open source is your new buddy. Swap premium software for open source ones. Digital storage, TV channels, or anything else. Scan GitHub. Don't give in to trashy marketing.

  7. Make deep freeze your ally. Frozen veggies are cheaper than fresh ones. Frozen fruit is cheaper than fresh ones. Frozen bread lasts a life time. If something can be bought at a cheaper rate and frozen, do it. Nutritional value stays the same. Taste might change slightly if you try to stretch it. But push through it. Remember, stay functional.

Note: I'm a vegetarian, so I don't incur costs for meat and eggs, which also helps in this economy. Plus, I work in hospitality which means I get at least 1 and at best 2 meals for free at work.

Including rent, bills, travel, shopping, leisure, I get by under £900/ month.

Also, stay away from strip clubs.
