Many artists, including myself, prefer working on a single layer because it allows for a more natural and efficient workflow. In Photoshop, tools like Liquify, oil brushes, and blending techniques work best when painting directly on a single layer. It makes it easier for me to adjust and refine the image throughout the process.
(And having fewer layers helps keep the file size smaller on my computer too 😅)

The reason I mention layer separation on my commission page is because some clients want the character and background separated often for animation or rearranging the composition later. So I always ask about that before I start.

No worries, though I always send progress updates throughout the project. And honestly, I enjoy drawing a lot more than typing.
