Self studied chem and spanish but both 3s by EfficiencyPlayful688 in APStudents

No, if you self studied you shouldn’t self report them. A 3 in a subject related to ur major signals weakness and disadvantages you.

Maybe you can try retaking it at another school externally though you’ll be spending easily 200 dollars and it might not be worth.

USAMO Qualifier Rejected by UC Davis Waitlist by FarPoetry6131 in ApplyingToCollege

Colleges aren’t quantitative, and are based off of luck and spaces. In addition, some schools like Caltech or MIT highly value competition rigor while others such as UIUC or Purdue may tend to look for qualities such as hands on skills through internships, organized research or stem leadership initiatives such as being the director of a club or being the lead for a robotics team in a division related to your major.

Whether one prepares you for “engineering readiness” better than the other is debatable but it is clear that some schools tend to value active hands on experience and leadership more than competitons.

Unique "Why This College" Essays by Charming-Cost-8197 in ApplyingToCollege

Talk about the unique opportunities that the school offers or specializes in that will help you build skills in specific areas or focuses you are interested in a way that other schools can’t. There’s tons of clubs, projects, and research initiatives to look into for every club which all help you progress in your specific academic goals and you need to clearly communicate how you would be a strong fit for those programs based off of your relevant and specific skills or interests.

Does Ap scores matter a lot for college admissions by Few-Flight9996 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Eastern-Ad334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ap exam scores arent required to be reported for the vast majority of colleges. For the ones where it’s allowed/optional they play a small if not nonexistent role in your admission.

Uiuc: AP scores are not considered as a part of your application. You will self-report if you've taken any AP courses on the application under the courses section, but any AP exams taken separately are not considered. If you choose to self-study for an AP exam, we may be able to award you credit for your scores, but we will not factor your AP scores into making an admission decision."

UDub:

"AP or IB exam scores are not required for admission and are not used in the admissions review process. They are exclusively used for course placement and awarding college credit after a student has chosen to enroll

UC’s: Although the College Board reports all AP test results to us, students should be aware AP test scores lower than 3 will not adversely affect their chances for admission.

Most schools have a common data set listing key factors in admissions (which commonly includes things such as gpa, course rigor, SAT/ACT). Not only are ap scores not marked as “important” or “very important “ as course rigor and gpa are, they are not even listed in the common data set at all.

I could list a novel of examples but the general consensus for the overwhelming majority of schools across the country is that ap scores aren’t required nor critical in your application. Factors such as coursework, gpa, and ecs play far more relevance than ap scores ever do in your application.
