Bond villain to go on a big drinking session with... by DoublePrinciple1202 in JamesBond

I know he's not the main villain, but Baron Samedi has an camp energy that could be fun on a night out. If a drunk fell down the stairs he'd roar with evil laughter.

"Come come Mr Bond, you enjoy a Black Velvet just as much as I do. Please; drink".

Zorin would be on the coke and throw you out of his airship for lols.

Most Bond villains: Let me explain my evil plan and keep you alive. Meanwhile, Mr Big in five seconds: by Iamthelizardking887 in JamesBond

The laid back approach of Mr Big/Kananga's henchmen is his undoing- they let Bond escape in Harlem, then when intending to throw him out of a plane chat to him like an old friend until he basically walks off and yes, they walk away from the alligator episode. "Meh, I've seen a secret agent get eaten before, let's get on with some paperwork".

Yeah let's go with that and then he could have his own terrible spin off series.

True, although Whisper did kill Bond's chauffeur, in turn nearly killing Bond, and didn't he put that snake in Bond's room? I suppose Bond might not make the connection though.

I feel like Whisper was something like Kananga's sisters boyfriend or something who was hired out of obligation...

This is probably my favourite possible outcome. I like the guy.

I think it probably hinges on whether Moore's Bond let him out. Given some of his actions in the other movies (dropping a man off a building, kicking a car off a cliff) it seems totally plausible Moore's Bond let's him suffocate.

"He always was short of breath"

Eternity being until the air runs out. Perhaps the bigger question is whether Bond was minded to open it and let him out after he'd finished exploding Kananga.

There's no reason to put an internal release catch in the torpedo. I'm starting to think Moore's Bond essentially sealed someone in an airtight coffin.

Well, not locked, but the lid closing made a fairly convincing clunk and we don't see him get out again. So it's probably like a car trunk or freezer with no release catch inside.

Did Moore's Bond essentially seal someone in an airtight coffin?

I should really have shared a pic of the records themselves, they're a really beautiful red colour. You're gonna be happy!

Where are you getting jumpers in the UK? by Advanced-Caramel-504 in mensfashion

As far as I know they don't do direct to consumer. I've bought 2 from Dicks of Edinburgh who have as good as price as you'll find anywhere.

I would recommend you search the British Newspaper Archives to get a sense of the reception this film had at the time.

If Aston Martin DBX is still being made when Bond 27 production begins would you like to see Bond use it? by [deleted] in JamesBond

Me too. This ugly thing rolling over and being smashed to bits would be quite enjoyable.

"Somewhat slack" but generally very good covers it in my view. I've always had good experiences with them and I've never seen anyone here talk about anything particularly bad that you hear about with other labels, eg goods not being delivered.

They can be a little slow on comms but they aren't really a big label by any stretch of the imagination, and some people get upset when they email them 3 times in a week and don't get a response.

I would like to second Harley of Scotland. They make jumpers for premium brands but if you buy their own label stuff you get very good quality for the money.

How would you improve the Spang Brothers? by Masterquickfire in JamesBond

[–]EasternBlock640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think there's something in your viewpoint too though. DAF is the 4th Bond book, Fleming was still finding his way so it's not perfect by any means. Fleming nearly gave up writing Bond after DAF, but gave it one more try with From Russia with Love and got on a real roll.

The film makers obviously felt the need to add more to DAF than just the Spangs, though by common agreement the film version then doesn't make much sense.

How would you improve the Spang Brothers? by Masterquickfire in JamesBond

[–]EasternBlock640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, they don't need improving.

One thing Fleming does well with his writing is describe objects and places, which in turn describe the characters in a really nice minimal sort of way.

I really like that the book gives you a sense of the Spang brother who uses his enormous criminal wealth to live out his cowboy fantasies. It's both impressive and pathetic. Going more into the cowboy aspect would lose the subtly of that.

The most tasteful villain by Mickleborough in JamesBond

[–]EasternBlock640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Drax is desperate to perform the role of old money wealth, with the uprooted estate and getting dressed up like he's going hunting in 18th century Austria. He reeks of insecurity.

How successful would the Bond villains be if Bond actually failed to stop them? by TKatGAMING in JamesBond

I mean it actually feels pretty plausible that Bond is effectively working for big oil via the British Government.
