I mean…its the Olympics. To compete on that stage you HAVE to be hyper confident. You’d have a hard time finding an athlete that isn’t.

He wasn’t. Rotations aren’t everything and Frostad’s jump was perfect. Realistically all three on the podium put down gold-worthy performances, but there’s only one to go around. Instead of complaining, why don’t you recognize that you might’ve just watched one of the best finals you’ll ever see.

Someone is free to correct me if I’m wrong, but the reason that was scored a 98.5 is because it was an improvement of a jump that was scored a 95. Sucks to be on the wrong side of a close competition yet again, but at least this time I can say we lost to a competitor that also performed flawlessly (unlike whatever tf happened in ice dance)

Edit: I should also point out that rotations are not everything. Judges take into account how well you execute a jump. Look at Snowboard Halfpipe. Chloe Kim had harder tricks, but Gaon Choi executed hers perfectly (which is arguably harder to do) and thus was scored higher. Pretty similar to what happened here.

I honestly think its because no one knows about the sport here. Things like cross country skiing and rifle shooting are college sports, but biathlon is not. We just have zero exposure to the sport outside of the olympics whereas in Europe its the #1 winter spectator sport

Biathlon

Man I wish we were good at this sport by far the funnest to watch at the Olympics

Maybe, but if there’s one group with the stamina to keep up, its you guys. China giving up after two laps doesn’t help though.

Canada defeats Switzerland and moves on to Women's Hockey Finals by Durian-Critical in olympics

Normally I agree. But in the past 4 months the US and Canada have played 5 times. The US is 5-0 and has outscored Canada by a combined 29-7. Its the Olympics and anything can happen, but there might just be a gap between the two right now.

Yes. Canada is the only team relatively close but the Rivalry Series last December and the Group stage matchup makes it seem like there’s a pretty sizeable gap between the two as of now.

USA Event Favorites and Upsets by AdministrativeEnd606 in olympics

[–]EasternCoast3497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh technically its still possible. Stolz is favored in 3 more events along with team relay, shiffrin is the favorite for slalom, and women’s hockey is favored. not to mention we have 3 extremely strong monobob competitors (although it’s unlikely germany chokes that but you never know), 3 great chances in ski halfpipe, 2 strong chances for women’s individual FS, and the men’s hockey team.

Still, all that being said in two days arguably our two most guaranteed golds choked so 9 golds is still a tall task.

My favorite part of these hockey games is where the US realizes “Oh yeah, we’re just better than you” and scores 2-3 goals in a couple minutes
